What they need

Digital Media Trust (DMT) is looking for an experienced website editor to join the small but deeply passionate NZ On Screen team.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the primary purpose of this part-time role (32 hours per week) is to carry out an editorial review of all text before it is published on the website, to ensure overall quality of content, including appropriateness, currency, copyright, grammar and a consistent style and tone. Content for the site is determined by the Content Director, with the workflow managed by the Content Coordinator.

The role requires an experienced editor with a passion for and knowledge of the history of Aotearoa New Zealand’s rich and diverse screen industry. The ability to write engaging and well-researched copy is also a must.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out an editorial review of content, which will include but not be limited to the following:
  • Profiles of people (brief and in-depth, new and updates)
  • Descriptions of films, TV shows, music videos etc. (new and updates)
  • Collection backgrounders that give context to curated groups of content
  • Screen credit information
  • Ensuring the overall quality of content published on the website, including appropriateness, copyright, grammar, consistent style and tone, and spelling.
  • Where needed, liaising with screen and music industry figures being profiled for the website.
  • Liaising with NZ On Screen’s pool of regular and guest writers during the editing process.
  • Maintaining NZ On Screen style guidelines and templates for writers to assist them with delivering high-quality content.
  • Writing content for the website, including profiles, title and collection synopses.

Experience and attributes:

  • Degree in Communications, majoring in journalism or a related field
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role
  • Experience editing content with today’s audience and digital platforms in mind
  • Passionate, knowledgeable and curious about Aotearoa New Zealand’s screen history
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Practical application of te reo Māori is an advantage.
  • Very strong attention to detail and ability to prioritise competing deadlines
  • Competency with content management and database systems, Microsoft Office applications, Google Suite and workflow tools. Experience with Wagtail is a plus.
  • You are motivated, you can operate independently and show initiative while working as part of a small and dedicated team
  • Embody Digital Media Trust’s values

Location: The successful applicant will be based in Wellington or Auckland.

Travel: The role involves occasional travel between Wellington and Auckland.

Applicants must have the right to work in New Zealand.

About DMT

Established in 2012, Digital Media Trust (DMT) is an independent charitable trust that produces two websites, ‘NZ On Screen’ and ‘AudioCulture’. DMT’s purpose is to provide context and understanding, and to enable enjoyment of popular culture and its history in Aotearoa. The organisation is primarily funded by NZ On Air and supported by the generosity of the New Zealand screen and music industries.

NZ On Screen is the online showcase for notable New Zealand television, film, music videos and web series. It makes screen content freely available to the people of New Zealand and supports and celebrates the screen industry.

AudioCulture (the noisy library of New Zealand music) tells the definitive story of New Zealand popular music history – the people, labels, scenes and places.

To apply, please submit your CV and cover letter, outlining why you think you are the right person for the role, by no later than 5pm on Sunday 25th November. Alternatively you may submit your application via email to [email protected].
