About the role

SINOHYDRO CORPORATION (M) SDN BHD - KOTA KINABALU is seeking a Site Engineer (Mandarin Speaker) to join our dynamic engineering team. This is a full-time position based in Kota Kinabalu District, Sabah, where you will play a crucial role in overseeing civil and structural engineering projects on-site. As Site Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that construction activities are executed in accordance with design specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations. This position is instrumental in bridging communication between our international teams and local stakeholders, with your Mandarin language proficiency being a key differentiator in this role.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor daily construction activities on-site to ensure compliance with approved designs, specifications, and contractual requirements
• Conduct regular site inspections and quality checks to verify that work meets engineering standards and specifications
• Communicate effectively with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders, leveraging your Mandarin language skills to facilitate clear dialogue with international partners
• Prepare and maintain site records, including daily reports, progress documentation, and quality assurance logs
• Identify and address construction issues, deviations, and non-conformances, proposing timely corrective actions
• Assist in scheduling and coordinating construction activities to ensure project milestones are met
• Support the Project Manager in budget monitoring and resource allocation on-site
• Ensure all on-site safety protocols and regulations are adhered to, promoting a culture of workplace safety
• Liaise between site personnel and engineering office to resolve technical queries and implement design changes
• Participate in site meetings and provide regular updates on project progress and challenges

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline
• Minimum 2-3 years of site engineering experience on civil or structural engineering projects
• Proficient in Mandarin Chinese (verbal and written) – this is essential for the role
• Strong knowledge of civil and structural engineering principles, construction methods, and building materials
• Familiarity with construction codes, standards, and safety regulations applicable in Malaysia
• Proficiency in site documentation, report writing, and the use of engineering software
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multicultural teams
• Physical capability to work on-site in varying weather conditions
• Willingness to undertake professional development and obtain relevant certifications (e.g., Safety and Health Officer certification)
• Experience with infrastructure, water resources, or hydropower projects is highly desirable
