What they need

Foreman

About Summit Design Build

Summit Design Build is a construction management firm based in Winnipeg, specializing in multi-unit residential and commercial construction. Our portfolio includes multi-unit residential buildings, commercial fit-ups and institutional projects. We are involved in every stage of the project, and the Foreman is central to how we deliver for our clients.

The role

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Foreman to lead field operations across our active projects. You will be the on-site authority: coordinating trades, maintaining site safety, tracking progress and making the day-to-day decisions that keep projects on schedule and on spec. You will work directly with the partners and our Project Coordinator, and you will have real input into how we run our sites. We want someone who takes ownership, builds relationships with trades, and holds the line on quality and safety without being asked.

Responsibilities

On-site leadership

  • Provide daily field supervision on multi-unit residential and commercial projects
  • Act as the primary on-site contact for subtrades, suppliers and inspectors
  • Coordinate trade scheduling and sequencing to avoid conflicts
  • Manage site access, visitor protocols and general site organization
  • Ensure work meets the approved drawings, specifications and Summit's quality standards

Safety and compliance

  • Conduct daily site safety inspections and enforce site-specific safety plans and WHMIS protocols
  • Keep the site safe and organized at all times, and lead by example
  • Ensure all trades comply with Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health regulations
  • Report incidents, near-misses and safety concerns to the partners immediately
  • Coordinate required inspections (framing, mechanical rough-in and others)

Documentation and reporting

  • Keep accurate daily site logs: trade attendance, work completed, deliveries and site conditions
  • Review drawings and specifications, and flag RFIs, discrepancies or scope gaps
  • Track and communicate schedule progress, raising risks before they become delays
  • Coordinate material deliveries and staging
  • Support the Project Coordinator with field documentation and progress reporting

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years as a Foreman or site supervisor on residential or commercial construction
  • Red Seal Carpenter or equivalent trade certification preferred; equivalent experience considered
  • Proven experience supervising multiple subtrades at once
  • Solid working knowledge of construction drawings, specifications and sequencing
  • Understanding of the Manitoba Building Code and workplace safety requirements
  • Valid driver's licence (required)
  • WHMIS 2015 and First Aid/CPR are assets
  • Multi-unit residential experience strongly preferred; commercial experience is a significant asset
  • Strong communicator who can handle a hard conversation with a subtrade and represent the project to a client on the same day
  • Solutions-oriented: you spot problems early and come with a plan

What we offer

  • Full-time, year-round employment with a growing firm
  • A direct working relationship with the partners
  • Variety: multi-unit residential, commercial fit-ups and institutional projects
  • The chance to help shape how Summit runs its sites as we grow

How to apply

Apply through Indeed with your resume and a brief note on your most relevant project experience. We review applications on a rolling basis. We appreciate all who apply; only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
