About this role

The successful candidate will help ensure the school site is safe, secure, clean and maintained to a high standard, with particular responsibility for health and safety and fire safety. No formal qualifications are essential, although applicants should have basic literacy and numeracy skills and be willing to undertake appropriate training.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Opening, closing and securing the school site each day.
  • Carrying out routine maintenance, minor repairs, PAT testing and general caretaking duties.
  • Ensuring the school buildings, grounds, playgrounds and pathways are safe, clean and well maintained.
  • Monitoring cleaning standards and ensuring appropriate cleaning and hygiene supplies are available.
  • Carrying out and recording required fire safety checks, including alarms, emergency lighting, signage and firefighting equipment.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety and COSHH requirements.
  • Overseeing contractors and visitors on site and assisting with deliveries and porterage.
  • Setting up facilities for lunches, meetings, assemblies, events and lettings.
  • Checking and maintaining outdoor and PE equipment, furniture and other school equipment.
  • Supporting the upkeep of the school grounds, including the woodland and Forest School areas.
  • Responding appropriately to site issues, including adverse weather, vandalism and pest control.

We are looking for someone who is practical, reliable, well organised and able to use their own initiative, with a commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
