What they need

About Us

Platform Construction is a growing developer-builder delivering commercial, accommodation and mixed-use projects across Canterbury. We are recognised for strong site delivery, practical problem-solving and well-run project teams.

We are seeking an experienced Site Manager to join our team on a major commercial development project in Christchurch.

Reporting directly to Senior Site Manager, this is a key site leadership role with responsibility for coordinating and driving the successful day-to-day delivery of the project.

The Role

As Site Manager, you will take ownership of site delivery across programme, safety, quality, subcontractor performance, logistics and day-to-day construction coordination.

You will work closely with the wider project team to ensure construction activities are properly planned, sequenced and delivered to programme, while maintaining strong site standards and supporting effective decision-making across the project.

This role will suit an experienced commercial construction professional who understands the full construction lifecycle and can lead teams, manage competing priorities and maintain project momentum in a complex site environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate day-to-day construction activities across the site.
  • Manage and coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
  • Drive programme delivery and ensure construction activities remain aligned with project milestones.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications and programme requirements to support effective site execution.
  • Monitor labour, materials and site resources to maintain productivity and cost awareness.
  • Coordinate construction sequencing across multiple trades and work fronts.
  • Identify programme, quality, safety and delivery risks early and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Maintain strong site standards across health and safety, quality, housekeeping and site presentation.
  • Support project planning, short-term programming and look-ahead planning.
  • Ensure subcontractors are clear on scope, programme, quality and performance expectations.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and address delays, quality concerns or coordination issues promptly.
  • Coordinate site logistics, access, materials, deliveries and work-front readiness.
  • Work closely with project, commercial and design teams to resolve buildability and construction issues.
  • Support quality assurance, inspections, defects and close-out activities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely site records using project systems, including Procore.
  • Promote a collaborative, accountable and high-performing site culture.

What You’ll Bring

We are looking for someone with:

  • 5+ years’ commercial Site Management experience with a main contractor.
  • A proven track record delivering complex commercial projects valued up to approximately $50 million.
  • 10+ years’ hands-on construction industry experience.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction from ECI through to fit-out and completion.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage site delivery against labour and material budgets.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodology, sequencing, logistics and buildability.
  • Experience managing multiple subcontractors and complex work fronts.
  • Practical knowledge of New Zealand construction practices, building requirements and workplace health and safety obligations.
  • Experience using Procore or comparable construction management systems.
  • Strong programming and short-term planning capability.
  • High level of digital literacy and confidence working with project management and construction software.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making and conflict-resolution capability.

About You

You will be a confident and practical site leader who combines strong delivery discipline with a constructive and respectful approach to people.

You will:

  • Be strongly safety focused, pragmatic and committed to maintaining high site standards.
  • Be adaptable and supportive of your team while remaining focused on achieving strong outcomes for our clients.
  • Be highly driven and able to motivate others to achieve project targets and maintain momentum.
  • Be detail oriented while maintaining a clear view of overall project priorities.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and communicate expectations clearly.
  • Be strong on standards and gracious with people.
  • Hold yourself and others accountable while maintaining professional and respectful working relationships.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider project team, subcontractors, consultants and stakeholders.
  • Take ownership of issues and focus on practical solutions.
  • Remain calm and decisive under programme pressure.
  • Continuously look for opportunities to improve site delivery rather than simply accepting “normal”.
  • Take pride in building a productive, organised and high-performing site team.

Fixed-Term Opportunity

This is a one-year fixed-term opportunity to join Platform Construction and contribute to the delivery of a major project within our growing Canterbury portfolio.

You will play a key role in leading site delivery, coordinating complex construction activities and supporting the successful achievement of project milestones.

Full details of the fixed-term arrangement will be confirmed in the employment agreement.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to take a key leadership role on a major commercial development project.
  • Full-time, site-based position in Christchurch.
  • Exposure to a complex and challenging commercial construction environment.
  • Strong project team and practical working culture.
  • Competitive remuneration based on experience and capability.

How to Apply

If you are an experienced commercial Site Manager with a strong main-contractor background, proven delivery experience on complex projects and the leadership capability to drive a high-performing site, we would like to hear from you.

Please submit your CV outlining your relevant commercial construction experience, including the scale and complexity of projects you have managed.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received.
