What they need

About The Opportunity We are partnering with a high performing digital product organisation to appoint a Site Reliability Engineer in Auckland.

This is a pivotal, hands on role sitting at the centre of their cloud-native journey. You will be the go to SRE, reporting to the CTO and working closely with a collaborative Digital team to lift reliability, performance and operational maturity across a modern platform.

Day to day, you will use code, automation and smarter processes to improve availability, latency, efficiency, monitoring, incident response and capacity planning. Longer term, you will help build a hyper-scalable platform and strengthen continuous integration and configuration-as-code practices.

This position includes participation in an on call roster as part of the overall salary package.

What You’ll Bring You are a practical, proactive engineer who enjoys owning outcomes and continuously improving how platforms run in production.

Core Experience

  • Strong AWS experience (production), ideally across IaaS and PaaS services
  • Kubernetes, ideally EKS
  • Infrastructure as code, especially Terraform (CloudFormation and Ansible also useful)
  • CI/CD and GitOps-style deployment patterns
  • Containerisation with Docker
  • Linux lifecycle experience in cloud environments (images/containers, patching, baseline security, networking fundamentals)
  • Observability: monitoring, alerting, APM, incident response and post-incident improvement

Ways of Working

  • Comfortable taking ownership and working independently (you can spot the problem, design the fix, and ship it)
  • Confident partnering with software engineers on build, test and deployment pipelines
  • Able to contribute to security posture (IAM, policies, compliance controls and regular assessments)
  • Strong documentation habits and a continuous improvement mindset

Nice to Have

  • AWS certification (Cloud Practitioner or beyond)
  • Networking knowledge (DNS, load balancing, CDN, security)
  • Bash scripting and deeper Linux administration
  • Understanding of database architectures in cloud-native environments

What’s on Offer

  • A rare opportunity to set the SRE standard in an organisation investing in cloud maturity
  • High-impact role with direct access to leadership and influence across engineering practices
  • Broad scope across reliability, automation, observability, security and performance
  • Supportive, collaborative team environment and meaningful technical ownership
  • Auckland-based permanent position

Additional Benefits

  • 4 weeks annual leave
  • 10 days sick leave, including 2 wellbeing days (available from day one)
  • Extra leave: 1 volunteer day, birthday leave, and milestone leave (wedding, birth/adoption)
  • Enhanced parental leave plus long service leave
  • Subsidised Southern Cross health
  • 24/7 EAP support for you and your family, plus wellbeing initiatives and social events
  • Travel perks: free travel insurance, discounts across travel brands
  • Commuting support: 50% public transport subsidy and car parking contribution up to $15/day
