Site Safety Supervisor

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Site Safety Supervisor to join China Communications Construction Company (M) Sdn. Bhd. in Kuching, Sarawak. This is a full-time position based on-site, where you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of health, safety and environmental (HSE) compliance across our construction operations. As Site Safety Supervisor, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining comprehensive safety protocols that protect our workforce, assets and stakeholders. This role is fundamental to our commitment to zero-harm operations and demonstrates our dedication to creating a safe working environment for all employees and contractors on site.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct daily safety inspections and audits across all construction areas to identify hazards and non-compliance with safety regulations
• Develop, implement and monitor site-specific safety plans, procedures and work method statements tailored to project requirements
• Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings and induction training for all site personnel, ensuring comprehensive understanding of HSE requirements
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near-misses, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence
• Maintain accurate safety records, statistics and documentation in compliance with Malaysian safety legislation and company standards
• Coordinate with project management and contractors to ensure all work activities conform to approved safety procedures and risk assessments
• Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure all equipment meets required standards and is properly maintained
• Conduct safety training and competency assessments for site personnel on equipment operation, confined space entry and other high-risk activities
• Liaise with external authorities including Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and other regulatory bodies as required
• Prepare monthly safety reports and performance metrics, identifying trends and recommending improvements
• Promote a strong safety culture through continuous engagement with site teams and encouragement of safe work practices

What we're looking for

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Site Safety Supervisor or equivalent HSE role within the construction industry
• Professional qualification such as NEBOSH IGC (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health International General Certificate) or equivalent international safety certification
• In-depth knowledge of Malaysian Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 and relevant construction safety standards and regulations
• Proven track record in developing and implementing site safety programmes that achieve measurable improvements in safety performance
• Strong ability to conduct risk assessments and method statements in accordance with construction industry best practices
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively engage with personnel at all levels, from labourers to senior management
• Demonstrated competency in accident investigation and incident reporting with emphasis on root cause analysis
• Sound knowledge of construction site operations, hazards and control measures specific to heavy civil engineering works
• Proficiency in using HSE management systems and data analysis tools
• First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification within the first three months of employment
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple safety initiatives simultaneously
• Preferred: Experience in large-scale infrastructure or heavy construction projects in Southeast Asia
