SITE SAFETY SUPERVISOR

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Site Safety Supervisor to join us on a contract basis. This is a critical position within our construction operations, based in Sandakan, Sabah. As Site Safety Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring that all health, safety, and environmental standards are maintained across our construction sites. Your role is pivotal in protecting our workforce, maintaining regulatory compliance, and fostering a strong safety culture throughout our projects. This position requires on-site presence and active engagement with all levels of our construction team.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular site inspections and hazard assessments to identify potential safety risks and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly
• Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies, procedures, and protocols specific to site conditions and project requirements
• Provide safety inductions and toolbox talks to all site personnel, ensuring comprehensive understanding of safety requirements and best practices
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, documenting findings and recommending preventive measures to avoid recurrence
• Maintain detailed safety records, documentation, and statistics in compliance with regulatory requirements
• Liaise with regulatory authorities and external safety auditors to ensure full compliance with local health and safety legislation
• Coordinate personal protective equipment (PPE) provision, maintenance, and usage across the site
• Monitor contractor and subcontractor adherence to safety standards and enforce corrective actions when necessary
• Conduct safety training programmes and refresher courses for site workers at all levels
• Report directly to site management on safety performance metrics and recommend improvements to safety systems

What we're looking for

• Formal qualification in Health and Safety or equivalent professional certification (e.g., DOSH, OHSAS, or relevant construction safety qualifications)
• Minimum 5 years' experience as a Site Safety Supervisor or similar safety role within the construction industry
• Accommodation shall be provided subject to availability
• In-depth knowledge of Malaysian construction safety regulations, standards, and best practices
• Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures specific to construction environments
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence safety culture across all levels of workforce
• Proficiency in safety documentation, incident reporting, and statistical analysis
• Ability to work independently and make decisions in dynamic, fast-paced site environments
• Valid First Aid certification and competency in emergency response procedures
• Proficiency in English and Malay languages; knowledge of local languages advantageous
• Proven track record of reducing safety incidents and improving safety performance on previous projects
