What they need

Job Overview

Welcome to Gearhouse! Our goal is to make the outdoors more approachable.

We're not mounting skis here - what we need is someone who can keep a rental fleet healthy: spotting a binding problem before the member does, tunes and waxes, boot fits that aren't working, and knowing when a pair should come off the rack for good. Experience across other sports is a real plus, winter or summer — our racks don't stop at skis, and neither do our seasons. This is a year round position ( if you'd like! ) that leads right into camping/hiking season. Join Gearhouse if you want a slower rental environment where every customer gets the time and guidance they need for a broad variety of adventures. You'll get to know the members' on a more frequent and recurring basis from expert adventurers to those just getting started on their outdoor journey. Successful gear wranglers at Gearhouse get bonus hours to host member trips from weekday skiing to shuttle rides to the mountain and back!

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive service and repair of skis, snowboards, and related gear.
  • Work with management on identifying pain points in the gear space.
  • Inventory/cataloging of all gear. Owning repairs/replacement as needed.
  • Assist customers with entry level questions. Gear House prides itself on being the first entry for many newcomers to the broader outdoors.
  • Utilize Airtable and Booqable to organize customer orders. Packing and unpacking gear by request.
  • Handling walkups and day to day ownership of the gear space.
  • A willingness to wear many hats. Gear Techs can add to their hours by taking up events. These can be helping with ski training/membership skiing in the winter, or long hikes/camping events during Summer.

Skills

  • Proven experience as a service technician with a strong background in ski repair.
  • Skilled in symptom-based diagnosis and troubleshooting issues effectively.
  • A self starter. Can recognize the issues and solutions needed without the red tape.
  • Experience with retail sales processes and POS systems to enhance customer interactions
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining attention to detail during maintenance tasks
  • Excellent customer service skills combined with a passion for the outdoors.

Join us if you're eager to apply your technical skills in a lively environment where your expertise directly enhances our customers' outdoor experiences!

This is a tipped position as you will also be engaging with the cafe side from time to time. Tips average $14-$20 an hour.

Pay: $22.00 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35.0 – 40.0 per week
