EXPERIENCED CARPENTERS / DECK BUILDERS WANTED – FULL-TIME & PART-TIME

Grain & Co. | Custom Decks & Outdoor Living

Grain & Co. is a growing outdoor-living construction company seeking experienced, dependable carpenters and deck builders for full-time and part-time opportunities.

THIS IS NOT AN ENTRY-LEVEL OR GENERAL LABOR POSITION.

Applicants must have a minimum of 2+ YEARS of consistent, verifiable carpentry/construction experience. We are looking for experienced tradesmen who understand construction, can think independently in the field, problem-solve, and take pride in producing quality work.

Our projects include custom decks, docks, pergolas, covered outdoor structures, outdoor living spaces, stairs, railings, composite decking, and other custom carpentry and construction.

EXPERIENCE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must:

  • Have a minimum of 2+ years of verifiable carpentry/construction experience
  • Be proficient in general carpentry through multiple phases of construction, from structural framing through finish work
  • Have experience with decks, docks, outdoor structures, and general framing
  • Understand proper layout, measurements, elevations, leveling, squaring, cutting, fastening, blocking, connections, and construction sequencing
  • Have experience working with pressure-treated lumber, composite decking, and other decking materials
  • Understand picture framing, breaker boards, fascia, stairs, railings, and finish details
  • Be able to read and understand construction plans, drawings, and basic specifications when provided
  • Experience with exotic/hardwood decking materials and specialty carpentry is a plus

CONSTRUCTION KNOWLEDGE & COMMON SENSE ARE REQUIRED

You must have strong practical construction knowledge and jobsite common sense.

We need carpenters who can be given basic measurements, dimensions, a general layout, and an idea of what needs to be built and understand how to properly lay out, frame, and construct the project from scratch.

While you must be capable of reading plans when plans are provided, YOU CANNOT BE DEPENDENT ON DETAILED DRAWINGS OR STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS TO PERFORM YOUR JOB.

You should understand construction well enough to look at a project, determine how it needs to come together, establish your layout, take accurate measurements, identify potential issues, problem-solve, and proceed with the work correctly and efficiently.

We are looking for experienced carpenters who can THINK, PROBLEM-SOLVE, MEASURE, LAY OUT, FRAME, AND BUILD — not someone who needs to be taught each step of the process.

VEHICLE & TOOLS REQUIRED

You MUST have reliable transportation and your own basic carpentry tools.

A reliable work truck, van, or dependable personal vehicle capable of getting you and your tools to the jobsite is required.

Applicants are expected to own basic tools appropriate for an experienced carpenter, including:

  • Circular saw Sawzall / reciprocating saw Impact driver / screw gun Drill Speed square and/or framing square Levels Tape measures Hammers Tool belt Standard hand tools

Larger and specialty equipment may be provided depending on the project.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION AND BASIC CARPENTRY TOOLS, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENT

Our projects are located throughout Southwest Florida and surrounding areas. Candidates must be willing and able to travel when projects require it.

Our work may range from approximately SARASOTA south through FORT MYERS / CAPE CORAL and down to MARCO ISLAND.

When significant travel is required for a company project, fuel assistance/reimbursement may be provided depending on the project location and assignment.

You must be dependable and capable of arriving at the assigned jobsite ON TIME AND READY TO WORK.

PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS

All candidates must:

  • Be reliable and punctual
  • Maintain a professional and clean appearance
  • Be respectful to customers, coworkers, subcontractors, inspectors, and others on the jobsite
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Respect customers’ homes and properties
  • Have a strong work ethic
  • Be able to work independently when necessary
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a crew
  • Follow jobsite safety requirements
  • Communicate effectively
  • Take pride in the quality of their workmanship
  • Be willing to take responsibility for assigned work

We are specifically looking for EXPERIENCED CONSTRUCTION PROFESSIONALS.

We are NOT looking for general remodelers, handymen, inexperienced laborers, or individuals who have only occasionally built decks.

REFERENCES & PREVIOUS EMPLOYMENT REQUIRED

Applicants must provide VERIFIABLE CONSTRUCTION WORK REFERENCES and previous employment information.

Be prepared to provide information regarding previous contractors, construction companies, or employers you have worked for and the type of work you performed.

Photos of previous work are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED, particularly framing, decks, docks, stairs, railings, pergolas, composite decking, finish carpentry, and outdoor-living projects.

References and previous work experience may be verified before employment.

ZERO-TOLERANCE DRUG & ALCOHOL POLICY

Grain & Co. maintains a professional and safety-conscious work environment.

DRUG OR ALCOHOL USE DURING WORKING HOURS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

Reporting to work under the influence of drugs or alcohol, possessing or using drugs or alcohol on an active jobsite, or consuming alcohol during working hours may result in IMMEDIATE TERMINATION.

COMPENSATION & EMPLOYMENT

Pay is based on experience, demonstrated skill level, reliability, and an initial work/trial evaluation.

We are willing to pay appropriately for individuals who can demonstrate the level of experience and workmanship we are looking for.

Depending on the position and actual working arrangement, qualified individuals may work as either:

  • Payroll Employee (W-2)

OR

  • Independent Contractor (1099), where legally appropriate

We are a small but growing company, and our goal is to build a reliable, consistent, professional crew for long-term work.

We are interested in people who want to grow with the company and maintain consistent employment — not individuals simply looking for occasional day labor.
