Skilled Labourer

At Phoenix the Skilled Labourer is also proficient at safe, efficient operation of a diverse range of construction equipment, and other pieces of equipment including dump truck.

Accountability includes:

• Maintain proper awareness of one’s surroundings.
• May mentor, train new employees in the safe and efficient operation of construction equipment.
• Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program
• Attend daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections. Ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Phoenix Safety Program.
• Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
• Read plans, instructions, or specifications to determine work activities
• Assist tradespersons such as welders, pipefitters etc. in construction activities
• Operate construction-related equipment (e.g., driving trucks or forklifts etc.
• Operate large, powered machinery and equipment (e.g., saws, drills, grinders, blowtorches, pressure cleaners, jackhammers).
• Erect temporary structures and scaffolding
• Place traffic signs to warn traffic of construction in process
• Clean and maintain construction equipment appropriately
• Align structural components according to blueprints
• Ensure that all work is being done safely and in compliance with company protocol
• Clean up chemical spills and other contaminants and remove other hazardous materials
• Attend site meetings /toolbox huddles
• Promote a team approach with all employees and sub-contractors

Requirements:

• 3 + years operating a diverse range of equipment operation an asset.
• Knowledge of construction materials and processes.
• Familiar with safe work practices and procedures
• Good communication skills at all levels
• First aid experience would be an asset
• O.S.T and C.S.T.S Training would be an asset

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma preferred
• Class 3E Drivers License or class 1 preferred
• Experience within the construction industry, downstream petroleum industry preferred
