What they need

Are you a Skipper with 3+ years experience that is looking for an exciting opportunity?  Do you have a passion for providing exceptional customer service and navigating the stunning Hauraki Gulf?  We are currently seeking a talented individual to join our team as a Skipper.

About us

Fullers360 has been connecting Aucklanders and visitors to the Hauraki Gulf for over 40 years.  With a team of 350+ and a fleet of high-speed ferries and modern buses, we proudly serve nearly 6 million passengers a year—getting commuters to work and visitors to explore.

Our Waiheke Bus Company introduced Auckland’s first electric bus fleet, and we’re proud to be project managing the build of Auckland’s first hybrid-electric fast ferries.  Sustainability, community, and a down-to-earth culture are at the heart of everything we do.

About the role

We are the leading provider of ferry services in the Auckland region, offering commuter and tourist passenger ferry services to the beautiful islands of the Hauraki Gulf.  As a Skipper, you will play a vital role in providing safe, efficient, and enjoyable experiences for our passengers.

Reporting to the Crew Manager, this role is tasked with ensuring an outstanding experience and safe journey for our customers.  This includes ensuring our vessels are well maintained, and all crew onboard are trained and operating at a high standard.

You'll be a real champion of the customer experience, and motivate your crew to go above and beyond.

Hours of work:

  • Rotating roster (no set pattern) including public holidays and weekends
  • No set pattern, usually 5 days on and 2 days off
  • 120 hours over a 3-week period, average of 40 hours per week
  • Shifts fall between the hours of 4.30am - 2am (morning, afternoon and night shifts)
  • Morning shifts start between 4.30am - 8.30am and night shifts finish between 10pm - 2am

About your tasks and responsibilities

  • Safe and efficient running of the vessels, leading your crew to a high standard and motivating them to work as a team
  • Provide crew training and guidance to keep elevating the customer experience as well as set the crew up for career progression;
  • Provide excellent customer service to your passengers and lead passenger & crew safety on board
  • Perform day-to-day upkeep on your vessel
  • Uphold clear and transparent communication with the Ops team and other departments for a smooth operation

About your background, skills and qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years Skipper experience on fast ferries or high speed vessels or high volume passenger experience is essential
  • A current New Zealand SRL or Chief Mate certificate, with endorsements for vessels over 24 meters, vessels <500GT, (HSE) high speed endorsement or higher skippers ticket (OR Australian equivalent) (24m, Pax, 500GT, HSE)
  • A current New Zealand Marine Engineering MEC5 ticket is highly advantageous
  • You MUST have the right to work in NZ to be considered for this role
  • You pride yourself on providing an outstanding customer experience
  • You have a proven track record and ability to successfully lead and support your crew
  • You are committed to continuous improvement

This position is on a rotating roster which includes weekends and public holidays.
