Slitter Operator / Backup Production Supervisor

Position Summary

Apex Converting is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Slitter Operator / Backup Production Supervisor to join our manufacturing team. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring automatic and semi-automatic slitter rewinder machines to produce finished rolls that meet customer specifications and quality standards.

In addition to machine operation, this employee will provide backup support to the Production Supervisor as needed, helping coordinate daily production activities, prioritize work, guide employees, and maintain an efficient, safe, and productive work environment.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, a commitment to quality and safety, and the ability to take initiative and provide leadership when needed. Manufacturing experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Machine Operation and Production

• Set up and operate automatic and semi-automatic slitter rewinder machines according to production orders and job specifications.
• Load raw material rolls using appropriate material-handling equipment and safe operating procedures.
• Adjust blades, tension controls, machine speeds, and rewinding settings to meet product specifications.
• Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain production efficiency and product quality.
• Inspect raw materials and finished products for defects, damage, and inconsistencies.
• Measure finished rolls to verify widths, diameters, tension, and other required specifications.
• Accurately complete production paperwork and quality control records.
• Maintain production schedules and communicate any delays or issues that may affect output.

Equipment Maintenance and Workplace Safety

• Perform routine machine cleaning and lubrication according to established procedures.
• Identify equipment malfunctions and promptly report maintenance needs.
• Assist with troubleshooting and minor machine adjustments within the scope of training and authorization.
• Operate a forklift when needed, provided proper training and authorization have been completed.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Follow all company safety policies, operating procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements.

Backup Production Supervisor Responsibilities

• Provide production leadership and coverage during the Production Supervisor’s absence or when assigned.
• Assist with organizing daily production assignments and prioritizing workload to meet production goals.
• Help coordinate workflow and monitor progress to ensure jobs are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Communicate work instructions, production priorities, quality standards, and safety expectations to employees.
• Assist employees with operational questions and production challenges.
• Identify and report production delays, quality concerns, equipment issues, and safety hazards to the appropriate manager.
• Support a professional, cooperative, and safety-conscious work environment.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

• Basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn and operate manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to read and follow production orders, written instructions, and product specifications.
• Basic math, measurement, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality products.
• Ability to organize tasks, prioritize production needs, and coordinate workflow.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to provide direction when serving in a backup leadership role.
• Dependability, sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to follow established safety procedures and company policies.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous manufacturing or machine operation experience preferred.
• Slitter rewinder experience is a plus.
• Previous lead worker or supervisory experience preferred.
• Forklift experience or certification is a plus.
• English/Spanish bilingual communication skills are a plus.
• On-the-job training will be provided.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive movements associated with machine operation.
• Ability to handle and maneuver rolls of material using appropriate equipment and safe handling procedures.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position safely, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Working Environment

• Industrial manufacturing environment with operating machinery and production equipment.
• Exposure to workplace noise and typical manufacturing conditions.
• Compliance with company safety procedures and use of required personal protective equipment are essential.

Work Schedule

• Days: Monday–Friday
• Hours: 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
