Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Smart Lock & Security Camera Installation Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, and troubleshooting door locks, smart locks, and security cameras for residential and commercial clients across Los Angeles. Your work will give our clients reliable security solutions that enhance their safety and peace of mind. This position combines hands-on field work with in-office responsibilities, offering the opportunity to work with modern smart home technology while delivering exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Install and remove deadbolt locks on residential and commercial doors, including drilling, alignment, and strike plate adjustment.
  • Install and remove thumb latch and thumb turn locks and handlesets.
  • Install and configure smart locks through the manufacturer’s app, including user codes and remote access setup.
  • Connect security cameras and doorbell cameras to customer Wi-Fi networks and verify that devices are recording and accessible through the app.
  • Conduct testing on every installation to confirm locks operate smoothly and cameras maintain a stable connection before completing the job.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve on-site issues such as misaligned doors, latching problems, pairing failures, weak Wi-Fi signals, and connectivity errors.
  • Perform service calls, repairs, and replacements on previously installed locks and cameras.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to explain device features, answer questions, and walk them through using their new locks and cameras.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed installations, service work, and device settings, including photos of finished work.
  • Prepare complete installation kits ahead of scheduled jobs, ensuring every component is included, such as locks, strike plates, latches, screws, batteries, and mounting hardware.
  • Verify that all hardware in each kit is compatible, including backset size, door thickness, latch type, and finish, before it leaves for a job.
  • Keep the shop, storage area, and service vehicle clean and organized, and notify management when inventory is running low.

Requirements

  • Proven hands-on experience installing and removing deadbolts, thumb latch locks, and smart locks.
  • Experience connecting security cameras or smart home devices to Wi-Fi networks, with a basic understanding of routers, network settings, and 2.4 GHz vs. 5 GHz bands.
  • Strong mechanical skills and experience using hand tools and power tools, including drills, hole saws, and chisels.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems independently and take full ownership of each job from start to finish.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a habit of double-checking work.
  • Comfortable using smartphones and apps on both iPhone and Android.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to explain technology clearly to clients of all backgrounds.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record, with willingness to travel throughout Los Angeles County.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, work in tight spaces, kneel, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Locksmith experience, familiarity with brands such as Schlage, Kwikset, Yale, August, Ring, or Arlo, and bilingual English/Spanish skills are preferred but not required.
