SME Loan Officer

Job Summary

The SME (Small and Medium Enterprise) Loan Officer is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, recommending, disbursing, monitoring, and recovering loans granted to small and medium-sized businesses. The officer ensures that credit facilities are granted to viable businesses while minimizing credit risk.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development

Source and acquire SME customers.

Market the bank's SME loan products.

Build relationships with business owners and associations.

Achieve assigned loan portfolio targets.

Credit Appraisal

Analyze loan applications and business proposals.

Assess business viability and profitability.

Review financial statements and cash flow.

Conduct business site inspections.

Verify collateral and guarantors.

Loan Processing and Disbursement

Prepare credit appraisal reports.

Recommend suitable loan facilities.

Ensure compliance with approval conditions.

Facilitate loan documentation and disbursement.

Portfolio Monitoring

Monitor loan utilization.

Conduct periodic business visits.

Review customers' repayment performance.

Maintain portfolio quality.

Loan Recovery

Follow up on overdue loans.

Negotiate repayment plans.

Engage guarantors where necessary.

Recommend recovery actions for defaulting customers.

Educational Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or HND in:

Banking and Finance

Accounting

Economics

Business Administration

Marketing

Any related discipline

Experience

Minimum of 2–5 years experience in:

SME Lending

Commercial Banking

Credit Analysis

Relationship Management
