SMP Estimator

Mader Group is a leading global provider of specialist technical services across the mining, energy and industrial sectors. As our Industrial Projects division continues to grow, we are looking for a commercially minded SMP Estimator to support an expanding pipeline of construction projects and new business opportunities.

We're looking for someone who understands how projects are delivered, not just how to put a price on them.

We're seeking a hands-on, technically capable individual who understands structural, mechanical and piping construction and can translate that knowledge into accurate, competitive and commercially sound estimates.

While previous estimating experience would be highly regarded, we're also open to experienced Project Managers, Project Engineers or construction professionals with a strong SMP background who are looking to transition into estimating or take the next step in their career. We would also welcome applications from Senior or Lead Estimators as we’re willing to invest in securing the right person to support our continued growth.

You'll bring practical project delivery knowledge, strong commercial awareness and the confidence to work through technical drawings, scopes of work and project costings.

The role

Based at Mader Group's Applecross headquarters and reporting directly to the Executive General Manager – Industrial Projects, you'll be responsible for estimating activities across SMP construction packages, supporting opportunities from initial tender assessment through to submission and project handover.

Working closely with our Industrial Projects leadership and operational teams, you will:

• Prepare detailed first-principles estimates for SMP construction projects.

• Review engineering drawings, specifications, scopes of work and tender documentation.

• Develop accurate labour, material, equipment and subcontractor costings.

• Complete material take-offs and assess construction methodologies, productivity and resource requirements.

• Identify project risks, scope gaps, exclusions and commercial opportunities.

• Prepare competitive pricing schedules, cost breakdowns and tender submissions.

• Work closely with project managers and operational teams to ensure estimates reflect practical delivery requirements.

• Support tender clarifications, commercial reviews and successful project handovers.

• Contribute to estimating improvements and the continued growth of our Industrial Projects capability.

About you

You're a technically capable and commercially minded professional who understands that accurate estimating requires more than calculations. You know how construction projects come together, can challenge assumptions and understand the importance of balancing competitive pricing with realistic project delivery.

You will bring:

• Experience in SMP estimating, project management, project engineering or construction delivery within mining, resources or heavy industry.
• Strong technical understanding of structural, mechanical and piping construction.
• Practical knowledge of construction methodologies, labour productivity and project costs.
• Confidence interpreting engineering drawings, technical specifications and complex scopes of work.
• Experience with project costings, material take-offs, budgets or subcontractor assessments.
• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify risks and pricing opportunities.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities and work to competing deadlines.
• Strong communication and stakeholder skills, with a collaborative and solutions-focused approach.
• A proactive attitude and willingness to develop your estimating expertise.

A mechanical trade, engineering or construction background would be highly regarded, particularly where combined with hands-on project delivery experience.

Previous first-principles estimating experience will be advantageous; however, we're equally interested in hearing from strong project delivery professionals who have the technical knowledge and commercial aptitude to develop in this space.
