SMT Process Engineer (NPI / AME)

In this role, you will drive excellence in Surface Mount Technology (SMT), NPI, and Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, shaping high-quality solutions for cutting-edge electronics manufacturing.

About the role

AME - Core Engineering role focused on process characterization, analysis, new technology project management, and engineering co-development across PCB manufacturing, BGA components, and advanced assembly processes.

Key responsibilities

• Assist TL in characterizing PCB and BGA warpage
• Characterize and optimize reflow profiles
• Design and optimize stencils to support site-wide operations
• Review and validate process and tooling requirements
• Review and finalize designs for custom pick-and-place (PNP) nozzles for extra BGA components
• Provide hands-on support for physical process builds
• Prepare comprehensive engineering reports by interpreting product features and FA results
• Evaluate NUDD (New, Unique, Different, Difficult) processes, golden pFMEA, and Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) parameters against product technology requirements
• Facilitate weekly internal team meetings, including agenda preparation and tracking action items
• Manage external communications and lead weekly meetings with customers, HPS, and suppliers, including Phase Exit reviews
• Support Quotation (RFQ) process by estimating costs for NUDD processes for both HPS & EMS
• Drive technology development for potential business opportunities, with a focus on large BGAs for HPS
• Execute technology development in parallel with, or ahead of NPI stages

Qualification

• Degree & Field: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
• SMT & NPI Experience: 5–10+ years of hands-on experience in SMT process engineering, NPI, or Advanced Manufacturing within electronics manufacturing.
• Core SMT Expertise: Strong expertise in SMT line setup, stencil optimization, custom PNP nozzle design, reflow profiling, and solder paste printing.
• BGA & Warpage Control: Proven skill in characterizing and mitigating PCB/BGA warpage, especially for large BGAs and fine-pitch components.
• Engineering Tools: Proficient in pFMEA, CTQ management, Failure Analysis (FA), and evaluating NUDD risk parameters.
• Project & NPI Management: Experienced in leading Phase Exit reviews, action item tracking, and RFQ cost estimation for NUDD processes.
• Customer & Supplier Interface: Background in customer-facing technical support and managing technical communications with suppliers, EMS, and HPS partners.
• English Proficiency: Strong written and verbal English communication skills for international meetings and technical documentation.
