About Us

At The Cove at La Jolla, our mission is to create a strong sense of community while providing exceptional care and service to those we serve. We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and motivated Full-Time Cook to join our Five-Star skilled nursing facility.

This position is primarily an morning shift, though occasional evening shifts may be required. Whether you have healthcare foodservice experience or are looking to grow your career in dietary services, we encourage you to apply.

Position Details

• Full-time, 40 hours per week
• 8-hour shifts, 5 days per week
• Primarily PM/Evening schedule
• Weekend availability required
• Kitchen hours: 5:00 AM - 7:30 PM
• In-person position in La Jolla, CA

Key ResponsibilitiesFood Preparation & Service

• Prepare and serve meals according to menus, recipes, and dietary requirements.
• Ensure meals are nutritious, appetizing, and served according to portion control standards.
• Prepare therapeutic and special diet meals as ordered.
• Review dietary care plans and accommodate resident preferences and substitutions as needed.
• Assist with menu planning, meal service, and snack preparation.
• Maintain appropriate meal tray setup and presentation.

Sanitation & Safety

• Follow all food safety, sanitation, infection control, and workplace safety regulations.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.
• Assist with cleaning schedules and proper food storage.
• Report accidents, hazardous conditions, or equipment issues promptly.
• Properly handle food waste and utilize protective equipment when required.

Team Support

• Work collaboratively with dietary and kitchen staff.
• Monitor inventory and communicate supply needs.
• Help ensure efficient daily kitchen operations and quality service.

Qualifications

• Previous cooking or food service experience preferred.
• Healthcare or senior living foodservice experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of food preparation, safety, and sanitation practices.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Reliable transportation to La Jolla, CA.
