Position Overview:

We're hiring a hands-on Snowflake Architect to own our Snowflake data warehouse architecture end to end, integrated with cloud-native pipelines on AWS. This is an individual-contributor role — staying close to the technology, architecting and coding, not managing people. We're looking for a proven track record architecting enterprise-scale Snowflake environments and building the AWS-based pipelines (Glue, S3, Lambda, Kinesis, Airflow) that feed them.

Required Qualifications:

• 10–12 years of hands-on data engineering/architecture experience; this is an individual-contributor role, not a management position.
• Deep, hands-on expertise designing and implementing Snowflake architecture at enterprise scale — this is the core, non-negotiable skill for this role.
• Strong, hands-on experience with core AWS data services — Glue, S3, Lambda, Airflow, and Kinesis — used to build pipelines that integrate with Snowflake.
• Proven experience with Snowflake performance tuning, cost optimization, and security/RBAC design.
• Advanced SQL skills and strong Python programming experience for pipeline development and automation.
• Solid understanding of data lake and data warehouse design patterns, including batch and streaming architectures.

Key Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end Snowflake architecture: schema and data model design, virtual warehouse strategy, clustering keys, resource monitors, data sharing, and role-based access control.
• Define and enforce Snowflake architectural standards and best practices for performance, scalability, and cost governance across the organization.
• Lead Snowflake performance tuning and cost optimization — query profiling, warehouse right-sizing, and storage/compute cost management.
• Establish data security and governance within Snowflake, including RBAC design, masking policies, and encryption aligned with compliance requirements.
• Design and build data ingestion pipelines using AWS Glue, Lambda, Kinesis, and Apache Airflow to feed Snowflake reliably.
• Architect data lake storage on Amazon S3 — partitioning strategy, lifecycle policies, and file format optimization (Parquet/ORC) — as the landing zone for Snowflake ingestion.
• Build real-time and near-real-time streaming ingestion pipelines using Amazon Kinesis for near-real-time Snowflake loading.
• Orchestrate complex, multi-step data workflows using Airflow (MWAA or self-managed), ensuring reliability, monitoring, and alerting.
• Partner with data engineering, analytics, and business teams to translate requirements into scalable Snowflake data models.
• Mentor engineering teams on Snowflake architecture best practices and pipeline design patterns.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production data pipeline and Snowflake performance incidents, performing root-cause analysis and implementing long-term fixes.
• Document architecture decisions, standards, and operational runbooks for the broader engineering team.
