Job Overview

Become a Social Practitioner and join an inspiring community-based, non clinical program to support the recovery of individuals (Members) living with serious mental illness (SMI). Hudson Valley Clubhouse is part of a global coalition of accredited Clubhouses, a time-tested and evidence-based program focused on partnership between staff and members to foster sustainable recovery.

The concept of a clubhouse starts with the idea that “community is therapy.” At the Clubhouse we offer a restorative environment for people whose lives have been severely disrupted because of their mental illness. We create an intentional community, where members and staff work together, side-by-side, to carry out all daily operations of the clubhouse.

The Staff Generalist/Social Practitioner helps Members live their lives to the fullest, as they develop independent living skills and make social connections. This position requires creativity, flexibility and deep engagement in the community as they model .

There will be no typical day as a Social Practitioner, but if you could see yourself fostering relationships and connections to community by making lunch, sharing a common interest over coffee, advocating at a social service provider, or helping one of your members to apply to a job in the community, then this could be the position for you.

Job Description:

• Work in close collaboration with staff team and members, as well as, individually to meet goals, promote a positive work environment, and advance the quality of services provided to members of the Clubhouse. Identify and encourage the skills, talents, creative ideas, and efforts of each member each day.
• Actively engage members, work with, and alongside members, in the work-ordered day, to identify needs in
• the Home and Garden Unitand Clubhouse, to assist members in planning out a full day’s worth of work and ensure those needs are met, plan activities and perform tasks associated with clubhouse units. These tasks include meal preparation, menu planning, clerical responsibilities, snack operations, maintenance of our garden and houseplants, organizing our free thrift store, and building maintenance. Ensure unit work is completed even if members are unwilling to assist.
• Coordinate with other work units, in multiple shared tasks, including reception, outreach, advocacy, and others as required
• Participate in social/recreational activities on some weekends, evenings, and holidays.
• Serve as an advisor, advocate, and resource for a caseload of members.
• Support member’s employment goals to find meaningful work outside the Clubhouse through Supported, Transitional or Independent Employment.
• Assist with vocational skill building, completing applications, interviewing, job development, job coaching and follow along supports.
• All other duties as assigned.

This position requires the following education:

• Bachelor's or Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with academic concentration in, for example, psychology, sociology, social work, occupational special education, rehabilitation, anthropology, criminal justice, or other.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle to attend training, meetings, and/or transport individuals to appointments.

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 24.0 per week
