What they need
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Grade 3 Social Worker to join our specialist FASD Service on a 0.4 EFT fixed-term basis until 30 June 2027, with the possibility of extension. Based at Monash Children's Hospital, you'll primarily support the Aboriginal Child Assessment (ACA) Clinic, with clinics held in Frankston and travel across metropolitan Melbourne as required.
Working as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will provide advanced psychosocial assessment, intervention and clinical leadership for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families navigating the FASD diagnostic pathway. You'll support families experiencing complex psychosocial challenges, including trauma, child protection involvement, substance use and intergenerational disadvantage.
A key aspect of this role is partnering closely with the Indigenous Community Development Worker to ensure care is culturally safe, strengths-based and aligned with Aboriginal models of health, healing and self-determination. You'll also contribute to multidisciplinary assessment, advocacy, service navigation, quality improvement, education and the ongoing development of this innovative statewide service.
About the Service
The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Service, within Developmental Paediatrics at Monash Children's Hospital, provides specialist multidisciplinary assessments for children with prenatal alcohol exposure who present with complex neurodevelopmental and behavioural needs.
The service is committed to delivering culturally responsive, trauma-informed care and works closely with children, families and communities to support positive outcomes. Through the VicFAS Indigenous Clinic, we partner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families, embedding cultural knowledge, family strengths and community connection into every stage of assessment and care. Alongside clinical services, the team also provides education, training and support to health professionals and community services to build understanding of FASD across the sector.
About You
You are an experienced Social Worker eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), with a passion for improving outcomes for children and families experiencing complex vulnerability. You bring significant experience working with children and families in paediatric or child-focused services and are confident navigating complex psychosocial situations.
To thrive in this role, you will bring:
- Demonstrated experience working in culturally safe, trauma-informed and strengths-based ways with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
- Strong psychosocial assessment, advocacy and family support skills within multidisciplinary settings.
- Experience working alongside Child Protection, education, health, disability and community services.
- The ability to build trusted relationships with families, colleagues and community partners.
- A commitment to culturally responsive practice, continuous learning and improving health outcomes for Aboriginal children and families.
Why Join Us?
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a specialist statewide service where your expertise will have a lasting impact on the lives of children, families and communities.
You'll join a passionate multidisciplinary team that values collaboration, cultural safety and innovation, working alongside experienced clinicians and the Indigenous Community Development Worker to deliver care that is genuinely family-centred and culturally responsive. You'll have the opportunity to influence service development, contribute to education and quality initiatives, and help shape best practice in an emerging and highly specialised area of paediatric care.
At Monash Health, you'll also enjoy:
- Generous salary packaging to increase your take-home pay.
- Ongoing professional development, supervision and leadership opportunities.
- A supportive and collaborative team committed to learning and excellence.
- Comprehensive wellbeing initiatives, including Employee Assistance Program (EAP) access.
- The opportunity to build your career within Victoria's largest public health service.
- If you're looking for a role where you can combine advanced clinical practice with advocacy, cultural partnership and meaningful service development, we'd love to hear from you.
