Software Asset Manager

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the complete software asset lifecycle, including procurement, deployment, maintenance, renewal, and retirement.
• Maintain accurate software inventory, license entitlements, and compliance records.
• Monitor software license usage and identify compliance risks and cost-saving opportunities.
• Perform software license reconciliation and Effective License Position (ELP) analysis.
• Support software audits and vendor license compliance assessments.
• Manage software license agreements, renewals, subscriptions, and vendor contracts.
• Analyze software usage and recommend license optimization and reclamation.
• Work with IT, procurement, finance, legal, and security teams to ensure compliance.
• Manage software asset management tools such as ServiceNow SAM Pro, Flexera, Snow License Manager, or equivalent.
• Handle complex L3 issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Prepare reports and dashboards for software compliance, utilization, audit readiness, and cost optimization.
• Develop and improve SAM processes, policies, and governance frameworks.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong experience in Software Asset Management (SAM).
• Knowledge of software licensing models, including subscription, perpetual, user-based, and device-based licensing.
• Experience with license compliance, entitlement management, software audits, and license reconciliation.
• Hands-on experience with SAM tools such as ServiceNow SAM Pro, Flexera, or Snow.
• Understanding of software publishers such as Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, Adobe, and VMware.
• Experience in software discovery, inventory management, and asset lifecycle management.
• Strong analytical, reporting, troubleshooting, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• ITIL Foundation certification.
• ServiceNow SAM Pro or Flexera certification.
• Experience in enterprise IT asset management and software compliance.
• Knowledge of IT Asset Management (ITAM), CMDB, and procurement processes.
