Software Developer – Full Stack & Embedded Systems

Phase Technologies is seeking a software developer to contribute to both our internal business systems and our growing IoT product line. You'll work across PhaseOps (our internal React/Node/MongoDB/PostgreSQL platform) and Phase Connect (our industrial telemetry and connectivity product).

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain features in PhaseOps, our internal full-stack web platform used across sales, operations, and support.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services in Node.js backed by MongoDB and PostgreSQL.
• Contribute to Phase Connect, our industrial IoT product — depending on where the product needs the most support, this means either mobile app development or embedded firmware development.
• Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews.
• Collaborate with operations, sales, and engineering teams to define and deliver features.
• Help bridge data between field devices and internal business systems.

Required Skills & Experience

• Full-stack JavaScript — React on the frontend, Node.js on the backend.
• Database experience — MongoDB and/or PostgreSQL.
• REST API design and integration — building, consuming, and debugging.
• Version control — Git, including branching and pull request workflows.
• Embedded or low-level development experience — prior work in device firmware (C/C++) or kernel-level development is a real advantage. Willingness to develop in areas outside your primary background is expected.
• 2+ years of practical development experience.

Nice to Have

• Cross-platform mobile app development
• Embedded or kernel-level C/C++ development
• Familiarity with some or all of: BLE, MQTT, binary protocol design, Modbus, serial communication, low-bandwidth cellular
• Industrial or manufacturing software background

Phase Technologies is a power electronics manufacturer based in Rapid City, South Dakota. Founded in 1999, we developed the world's first digital phase converter — the Phase Perfect® — and have since expanded into variable frequency drives (VFDs) for irrigation, water pumping, HVAC, and oil & gas applications.

We specialize in Active Front End VFD technology and produce the only low-harmonic, fully regenerative, phase-converting drive that complies with IEEE 519. Our products are engineered and built here in Rapid City, and our software team supports both internal operations and the connected products going into the field.
