What they need

The Kindred team is at the heart of our cooperative, bringing our values to life every day. More than financial professionals, we care deeply about our members and our communities. With integrity, stewardship, and compassion, we work to connect values and faith with finances, inspiring peaceful, just, and prosperous communities.

We are currently recruiting a full-time Software Developer to join our IT team at our Head Office (Kitchener).

Reporting to the Manager, Software Development, you will create applications, APIs, and tools that help Kindred employees work effectively and serve our members. Working with other developers and colleagues across the organization, you will translate business needs into secure, reliable software and data solutions. Your work will include new development, system integrations, troubleshooting, and improvements to existing applications and processes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop practical software solutions. Work with business colleagues to understand their processes and requirements, define specifications, and develop, test, and implement applications, scripts, and database functionality.
  • Connect systems and information. Build and document APIs and system integrations that transfer and synchronize information, supporting reliable access to data across Kindred’s systems.
  • Strengthen data quality and integrity. Understand how Kindred’s data assets relate to business processes, contribute to our organizational data model, and implement solutions that improve data completeness, accuracy, and security.
  • Support reliable operations. Troubleshoot applications and databases, improve system performance, participate in code reviews and testing, and maintain clear operational and end-user documentation.

What to bring

You are a curious developer who enjoys understanding how things work and finding practical ways to make them better. You combine analytical thinking with careful attention to detail, taking pride in software that is reliable, secure, and easy to use. You build strong working relationships and can translate technical concepts into clear conversations with colleagues. You are comfortable balancing project work with troubleshooting and smaller improvements, sharing what you know, and continuing to develop your skills. You will also bring an active commitment to Kindred’s shared values and purpose.

Plus, you bring your qualifications and experience:

  • A university degree or college diploma in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Three to five years of software development experience.
  • An understanding of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, relational databases, and structured data storage.
  • Skills in technologies used in our environment, including Java, Spring Boot/MVC/Security, PowerShell, JavaScript/ES6, HTML5, CSS3/Sass, and Angular.
  • Experience with SQL Server, T-SQL, SQL Server Management Studio, and Power BI.
  • Current knowledge and experience developing and implementing RESTful APIs.
  • Familiarity with Git, code standards and reviews, Agile development, automated testing, and DevOps practices, along with tools such as Visual Studio, IntelliJ IDEA, NPM, Maven, and Jenkins.
  • Knowledge of application servers and related technologies, including IIS, Tomcat, Node.js, and Karaf, and a general understanding of servers and networking.
  • Experience using AI tools to support software development and debugging.
  • The ability to work with non-technical colleagues to clarify requirements, coordinate development tasks, and deliver useful solutions.
