AWS Commerce Platform team is hiring a cleared Software Development Engineer to join the team. This is an exciting opportunity to use the latest cloud computing technologies to help U.S. Government agencies implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve technical problems.
In this role, you will join a team of highly talented engineers that build software solutions for Amazon’s billing, metering, and optimization systems in air-gapped cloud environments as well as services and tooling to improve how we operate these services. This role enables you to deliver impact at scale, and the work you do unlocks the latest in billing and cost management capabilities for all of our US ADC customers.
A successful Software Development Engineer is focused on building services that operate at the intersection of business problems and technology strategy. They balance constraints and consider the long-term implications of their design decisions.
We are looking for a Software Development Engineer who is passionate about leading the architecture and development of application software that helps keep Amazon billing systems running efficiently and securely. On any given day, we use Java, Rust, Python, Lambda, DynamoDB, and CloudFormation, as well as other public AWS services and a host of Amazon-internal tools.
This position requires that the candidate selected must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance. The position further requires that, after start, the selected candidate obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph or commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.
Key job responsibilities
In this role, you'll design, develop, and maintain the software systems that power Amazon’s billing, metering, and optimization systems in air-gapped cloud environments. You'll build scalable solutions and collaborate with senior engineers on system architecture while mentoring junior team members. You'll own features end-to-end: gathering requirements, designing APIs and data models, implementing robust solutions, and driving operational excellence through monitoring, alarming, and on-call support. You'll work to improve data quality, reduce manual interventions in automated pipelines, and eliminate operational toil. You'll partner with cross-functional teams to integrate infrastructure data across planning, design, and deployment workflows. Above all, you'll care deeply about data integrity and system reliability, building solutions that scale with AWS's rapid growth while maintaining the accuracy our customers depend on.

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
