This role is responsible for defining architecture strategy, driving platform modernization, ensuring secure and reliable product execution, and guiding engineering teams across the full software development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the Windows Embedded software architecture, platform roadmap, and technical standards for Host Processor Platform (HPP) products and engineering teams.
  • Provide senior technical leadership in system design, architecture governance, software reuse strategy, scalability, security, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Architect, design, and guide development of secure, reliable, and high-performance Windows applications, common libraries, system services, and low-level software components.
  • Lead Windows system-level design activities, including hardware-software integration, device communication, driver interaction, diagnostics, serviceability, and product recovery mechanisms.
  • Drive Windows platform modernization initiatives, including build system improvements, DevOps automation, CI/CD pipelines, installer/update strategy, image customization, and long-term servicing approach.
  • Partner with hardware, firmware, QA, security, manufacturing, service, and product teams to deliver robust embedded software solutions for HPP instruments and platforms.
  • Guide product security and compliance readiness, including OS hardening, vulnerability remediation, third-party component governance, SBOM readiness, and secure software development practices.
  • Mentor senior and junior engineers, influence technical direction across teams, and help grow engineering capability in Windows Embedded platform development.
  • Demonstrate strong ownership for platform quality, reliability, security, maintainability, engineering excellence, continuous improvement, and customer-focused execution

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Typically 10 or more years of experience in embedded software, firmware, Windows system-level development, or related software engineering roles.
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ and object-oriented design, with hands-on experience developing multi-threaded, high-performance software on Windows platforms.
  • Proven experience architecting complex Windows-based embedded systems, including software architecture, design patterns, system performance optimization, reliability, and cybersecurity considerations.
  • Hands-on experience with Windows Embedded or industrial Windows platforms such as Windows 10/11 IoT Enterprise, Windows Embedded Standard, or other long-lifecycle Windows-based product environments.
  • Deep understanding of Windows system architecture, including Windows services, user-mode and kernel-mode interaction, device interfaces, installer/update mechanisms, system recovery, and debugging practices.
  • Familiarity with hardware communication protocols such as I2C, UART, SPI, USB, PCIe, Ethernet, and TCP/IP.
  • Experience with non-volatile storage technologies such as NOR Flash, NAND Flash, eMMC, SD Card, or EEPROM.
  • Experience with Windows development tools and workflows, including Visual Studio, MSBuild, source control, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and software release practices.
  • Experience with advanced Windows debugging and performance tools such as WinDbg, ETW, Windows Performance Analyzer, crash dump analysis, Driver Verifier, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of secure software development lifecycle practices, vulnerability management, third-party component governance, SBOM generation, and regulatory compliance expectations for connected products.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical strategy, influence cross-functional stakeholders, resolve complex design trade-offs, and translate business or product needs into long-term architectural solutions.
  • Outspoken and confident, with excellent communication skills and the ability to engage and align stakeholders effectively.
