Software Engineer (Back-End)

For our client, we are seeking a Software Engineer (Back-End) to join the team of a leader in the Legal & Accounting space.

This role will focus on building and scaling backend services that power a cloud-based risk and compliance platform used by professionals in a highly regulated industry. You will partner closely with product managers and frontend developers to deliver stable APIs, reliable data flows, and well-designed service architecture. The position offers the opportunity to shape technical solutions, improve maintainability, and contribute to deployment confidence across the platform.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $105,000 – $130,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend features and robust REST APIs using Java, Kotlin, and Spring Boot
• Write clean code and build comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure deployment stability
• Independently diagnose and resolve issues in your service area through logs and analytics
• Act as a subject matter expert for a defined area of the platform, optimizing designs for maintainability
• Participate in technical specification reviews and author clear technical documentation
• Work with relational databases and advanced data stores to optimize data flow across microservices
• Collaborate in Agile sprints with product managers and frontend developers to align project priorities

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of backend, platform, or systems engineering experience in a high-growth environment
• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or similar enterprise JVM languages, with knowledge of Spring Boot
• Experience building and maintaining production-grade REST APIs, with a focus on versioning and stability
• Hands-on experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including complex queries and schema migrations
• Ability to independently troubleshoot distributed backend services using log parsing and monitoring tools
• Familiarity with AI coding assistants in the development process
