Software Engineer - Backend

About the role

Vireon is building the power distribution hardware and industrial intelligence platform that enables factories to operate in a safe, efficient and reliable manner by combining IoT hardware, edge computing and data science. We're growing the backend team behind our cloud platform, which ingests, stores and secures electrical intelligence data from thousands of industrial sensors across India. This is a hands-on role — you'll own backend systems end-to-end, from database schema to API security, for data that customers in regulated industrial sectors trust us to protect.

What you'll work on

• Design and build backend services and APIs that ingest, process and serve electrical intelligence data from industrial sensors across India.
• Own the data layer: schema design, query optimisation and scaling for TimescaleDB (hot time-series data).
• Implement multi-tenant data architecture with strict per-customer and per-site data isolation.
• Design and enforce authentication, authorisation and access-control across internal and customer-facing APIs.
• Implement and maintain encryption at rest and in transit, including per-customer encryption key management.
• Build and maintain the mTLS-secured MQTT ingestion pipeline handling telemetry from thousands of connected devices.
• Own secure OTA firmware-delivery infrastructure: signed updates, rollback protection and device provisioning workflows.
• Conduct security reviews, threat modelling and vulnerability remediation across backend services.
• Maintain audit trails, access logging and data-exfiltration monitoring for sensitive customer and trade-secret data.
• Collaborate with the ML and firmware teams on schema versioning for the device-to-cloud protocol, supporting fleet-wide OTA rollouts across multiple firmware versions.
• Write and maintain backend documentation: API specs, data models and security runbooks.

Must have

• Strong backend engineering experience in Python, Go, Node.js or Java.
• Solid experience designing and operating relational and time-series databases (PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB or similar).
• Practical application security fundamentals: authentication/authorisation (OAuth2, JWT), encryption (TLS/mTLS, at-rest encryption, key management) and secure API design.
• Experience building and securing RESTful or event-driven APIs.
• Familiarity with message brokers or streaming systems (MQTT, Kafka or similar).
• Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure (GCP or AWS) and containerised deployment (Docker).
• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS data architecture and per-customer data isolation.

Good to have

• IoT/embedded exposure: device provisioning, secure elements (TPM 2.0, ATECC608B), signed firmware and OTA.
• Security certifications or compliance frameworks relevant to industrial, financial or data-centre customers.
• Database partitioning and scaling strategies for high-throughput time-series workloads.

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹70,000.00 per month
