Software Engineer – C/C++

Spectrum IT Recruitment is working with an innovative technology business specialising in 5G and wireless communications , looking for a Software Engineer to join their software team in Southampton.

This opportunity would suit an engineer with 1–3 years’ commercial experience in C or C++ who wants to build on their skills and contribute to challenging software projects. You’ll have an interest in multithreading, software performance and optimisation , with the opportunity to develop your knowledge through practical work alongside experienced engineers.

The Role

You’ll help develop, integrate and optimise software supporting the company’s 5G NR Physical Layer (PHY) technology . Working with software, hardware, architecture and system-test teams, you’ll contribute to reliable, high-performance software while developing your technical experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop C/C++ software used to run and test 5G NR PHY algorithms
• Help improve software performance through optimisation and multithreading
• Integrate software components and investigate technical issues
• Contribute to automated testing and CI processes
• Collaborate with hardware, architecture and system-test teams
• Assist with interoperability testing involving customers, vendors and operators
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions

Essential:

• Around 1–3 years’ commercial experience developing software in C or C++
• A solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals
• An interest in multithreaded or high-performance software , ideally with some exposure through commercial work, university projects or personal projects
• A practical approach to debugging and problem-solving
• A willingness to learn and contribute within a collaborative engineering team

Desirable:

• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
• Exposure to performance profiling, optimisation or multithreading
• Knowledge of SIMD or hardware acceleration
• An understanding of signal processing
• Exposure to 5G, O-RAN or fronthaul protocols such as eCPRI

Previous telecoms or 5G experience is not essential. We’re keen to hear from engineers with a good C/C++ foundation and an interest in developing their skills in this area.
