Software Engineer - Cloud Platform (Senior / Staff)

Summary

The Cloud Platform Software Engineer builds and operates the cloud side of Deterrence's factory software platform, which connects automated equipment, data, and operations across our production sites. This role owns backend services, data pipelines, and infrastructure in AWS GovCloud, and partners with edge, controls, and robotics teams to move production data securely and reliably between the factory floor and the cloud. The ideal candidate has shipped production backend systems, is comfortable owning infrastructure as well as code, and wants to build software that runs real factories.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend services and APIs for the factory software platform in AWS GovCloud.

• Build ingestion and storage pipelines for equipment telemetry, production events, and quality data from factory edge systems.

• Own infrastructure as code, CI/CD, observability, and on-call for assigned services.

• Implement authentication, authorization, encryption, and audit controls aligned with regulated-environment requirements.

• Define data models and interface contracts with edge, robotics autonomy, and front-end teams.

• Drive reliability: SLOs, incident response, root-cause analysis, and remediation.

• Write clear design documents; review code; mentor engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

• Senior: 5+ years · Staff: 8+ years building production backend or distributed systems.

• Strong in at least one of Python, Go, TypeScript, or Rust; comfortable in a second.

• Hands-on AWS experience (compute, networking, IAM, managed data services); GovCloud a plus.

• Infrastructure as code (Terraform or CDK), containers, and CI/CD.

• Experience with streaming or time-series data (Kafka, Kinesis, MQTT, Timestream, or similar).

Level Expectations

Staff additionally owns platform architecture across services, sets engineering standards, and leads multi-team technical initiatives.

Preferred Skills

• Compliance experience: NIST 800-171, CMMC, FedRAMP, or ITAR environments.

• Edge-to-cloud or IIoT system experience.

• Manufacturing, robotics, or hardware-adjacent domain background.
