Software Engineer

Software Engineer | Paris | Contract - Outside IR35 | €300–600 per day

We are working with a leading provider of financial market data, who are seeking a Scientific Software Engineer to join the Research function on a contract basis. This role sits at the intersection of scientific computing and production software engineering. You will help build a next-generation research platform that enables analysts and researchers to develop, run and share notebook-based analytical work in a robust, reproducible and scalable environment, without sacrificing the flexibility that makes notebooks effective research tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop Python-based backend services supporting notebook execution, versioning, annotation and data lineage
• Build APIs and processes enabling researchers to discover, launch and share research artefacts across teams
• Abstract complex data access, including large-scale, versioned and proprietary datasets
• Partner closely with researchers and quantitative teams to understand analytical and simulation requirements
• Contribute to architectural decisions relating to execution environments, sandboxing, scalability and reproducibility

Candidate Requirements

• Strong Python software engineering experience, extending beyond exploratory or scripting-based work
• Practical experience using notebooks within genuine research or analytical workflows
• Experience building systems that support data analysis, simulation or computational research
• Ability to work effectively across the full stack (backend and API/UI layers)
• Strong collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside researchers, quants and scientists

Candidates from non-traditional engineering backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply, including those with experience in academia (PhD, post-doctoral or research software engineering roles), biotech and life sciences, or scientific computing and simulation-heavy environments.
