Your new role

As a Software Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development, integration, and support of software systems underpinning sophisticated operational platforms. Working within a multidisciplinary team of software, systems, hardware, and engineering specialists, you will help deliver reliable, high-availability solutions in a complex technical environment.
Key responsibilities include:

• Developing and maintaining C++ applications across Windows and Linux environments
• Supporting system integration, testing, verification, and validation activities
• Building software for real-time and distributed processing systems
• Enhancing visualisation tools and user-facing applications
• Troubleshooting and resolving complex software and system issues
• Contributing to DevOps initiatives, including CI/CD pipelines and automation
• Collaborating closely with engineering teams to deliver robust and scalable software solutions
• Driving continuous improvement across software quality, performance, and engineering practices

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful, you'll bring:

• At least 3 years' experience in software engineering or software development roles
• Strong commercial experience developing applications in C++
• Experience working across both Windows and Linux environments
• Python development experience for automation, scripting, or data processing
• Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, including unit, integration, and system testing
• Experience supporting high-availability or mission-critical software systems
• Exposure to distributed processing and/or real-time systems
• Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, source control, and deployment automation
• Experience working with software that interfaces with hardware, firmware, or complex engineering systems

Desirable experience includes:

• User interface and visualisation tool development
• Scientific, observatory, defence, space, or advanced engineering environments
• Safety-critical systems and systems automation
