What they need
About Como HR
Como HR is a third-party fractional HR firm based in Los Angeles. We serve healthcare and behavioral healthcare organizations: behavioral health and SUD treatment providers, medical groups, occupational medicine, urgent care, surgical centers, home health, hospice, and dental practices.
Our clients operate under layered compliance obligations. Federal rules, state rules, licensing bodies, and accrediting bodies all stack on top of each other, and every one of them attaches to a specific person, on a specific date, with a specific document. Most firms in our space run that on spreadsheets. We are building software instead.
About The Role
We are building the Como HR platform: the system our HR reps and our clients both live in every day. It tracks every employee at every client facility, resolves which documents each of them owes based on role, worker classification, state and facility, routes those documents out for signature, and escalates them before they expire.
A working prototype already exists and covers most major surfaces. This role takes it from prototype to production system.
You would be an early engineering hire. That means you get real ownership of real features very quickly, you sit close to the people who actually do the HR work, and you will see what you build get used within days rather than quarters. It also means the work is broad, the specs are sometimes a conversation rather than a ticket, and you need to be comfortable with that.
What You Will Work On
The requirements engine. Given a person, a role, a worker classification (1099 vs W-2), a state and a facility, determine what documents they owe and when. Effective-dated, so a rule change does not silently rewrite history.
Template composition. Federal core plus state pack plus facility packs, composed into a live requirement set, with edits at the template level propagating correctly to every account using it.
Two portals, one truth. An internal rep-facing portal and a client-facing portal over the same data, with deliberate rules about what is mirrored and what is internal only.
Integrations. DocuSign for document routing and status, Gmail for notifications, Google Calendar for deadlines and scheduling.
Reporting and compliance visibility. Matrix views that stay usable at 100+ employees against 60+ document requirements per facility.
The boring, load-bearing parts. Data modeling, migrations, auth and permissions, audit trails, tests, and the harnesses that keep all of the above honest.
Our Stack
React on the front end. Python and Node.js in the tooling and validation layer today, with the production backend architecture still an open decision you would help make. Integrations against the DocuSign, Gmail and Google Calendar APIs. We are not dogmatic about frameworks and we do not expect you to have used ours.
What We Are Looking For
Required
BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. Recent graduates encouraged; this role is designed for someone at the start of their career.
Solid fundamentals: data structures, relational data modeling, HTTP and REST, version control with Git.
Working proficiency in at least one modern language (JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, Go, C#) and willingness to work in whichever the problem calls for.
Enough front-end capability to build and modify React components, whether from coursework, internships, or personal projects.
Clear written communication. You will be writing specs and documentation, not just code.
Genuine care about correctness. A missed expiration date in this system is a client's compliance failure, not a cosmetic bug.
AI fluency (required)
We build with AI-assisted tooling as a default, not as a novelty. We are looking for someone who already works this way and can go further with it.
Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar, and good judgment about where they help and where they do not.
Understanding of how LLMs actually work at a practical level: prompting, context windows, structured output, evaluation, and where hallucination risk lives.
Interest in building AI features into the product itself. Document intake and classification, drafting, and intelligent compliance review are all on the roadmap.
Bonus: exposure to Model Context Protocol (MCP), agent frameworks, RAG pipelines, or fine-tuning.
Nice to have
Internship or project experience with multi-tenant SaaS.
Exposure to any regulated domain: healthcare, HR, finance, legal.
Experience integrating third-party APIs with real authentication and webhook handling.
Anything you built and shipped that people other than your professor used.
What we offer
Direct mentorship from the principals, with no layers in between.
Meaningful ownership of a core product from an early stage.
A domain that is genuinely intricate. If you like systems where the rules are complicated and getting them right matters, this is that.
[Benefits, PTO, equity or bonus structure to be added.]
How To Apply
Tell us about one thing you built, what broke, and how you fixed it. If you have a GitHub, portfolio, or anything shipped and public, include it.
We would rather see a small project you can explain deeply than a long list of technologies you have touched once.
Como HR is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law. Qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered in accordance with the California Fair Chance Act.
Pay: $100,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
