Software Engineer

We are seeking a strong Software Engineer to join a team responsible for supporting and modernizing critical enterprise applications that enable highly regulated operational and market-facing business processes. This role will play a key part in a large modernization effort focused on decomposing legacy applications, building integrations between systems, and delivering enhancements that support evolving regulatory and business requirements.

The ideal candidate is an experienced problem solver who enjoys untangling complex legacy code, understanding intricate business processes, and designing practical solutions. This position is heavily backend-focused (approximately 80%) but requires enough front-end expertise to contribute across the full application stack when needed.

Success in this role requires technical curiosity, strong debugging abilities, and the ability to quickly learn a specialized business domain filled with complex workflows, terminology, and interconnected systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise applications supporting mission-critical operational processes.
• Modernize and refactor legacy systems, breaking down monolithic applications into scalable and maintainable services.
• Develop integrations between existing enterprise applications and newly modernized platforms.
• Build, maintain, and optimize Java-based backend services and APIs.
• Analyze, troubleshoot, and improve highly complex legacy codebases.
• Create and support user-facing functionality utilizing Angular and modern front-end frameworks.
• Write, analyze, and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and database integrations.
• Support containerized application deployments using Kubernetes and Docker.
• Participate in GitHub-based source control and CI/CD delivery processes.
• Partner with business and technical stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into scalable solutions.
• Investigate production issues, identify root causes, and implement long-term fixes.
• Utilize AI-assisted development tools to accelerate understanding of large codebases, documentation, and technical dependencies.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering or application development.
• Strong experience developing enterprise applications using Java.
• Advanced SQL skills, including the ability to read, troubleshoot, and optimize complex SQL statements.
• Experience with Oracle databases and relational data modeling.
• Experience building integrations between applications, services, and enterprise platforms.
• Experience with Angular or similar front-end frameworks.
• Experience deploying and supporting applications in Kubernetes environments.
• Experience working with GitHub and modern CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills.
• Proven ability to work effectively within complex legacy application environments.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with TimeLeaf data structures, tables, or related systems.
• Experience with Azure Synapse Analytics.
• Experience with Azure Data Factory.
• Experience working with highly regulated enterprise applications.
• Familiarity with containerized microservices architecture.
• Experience leveraging AI-powered development tools, including Microsoft Copilot, Claude, or similar platforms.
• Experience modernizing legacy applications and improving system interoperability.
• Exposure to complex operational, compliance, or transactional business processes.
