What they need

We're looking for a Mid-level Software Engineer to join the development team behind our in-house Transport Management System (TMS). The TMS is the operational backbone of Egala: dispatchers plan trucks, trailers and drivers on it, drivers use its mobile app on the road, and finance invoices customers and pays drivers from the data it holds. It is a mature, actively developed product – a Python/Django backend, a React frontend, a Flutter driver app and a long list of integrations with telematics, routing, ferry and accounting providers, shipped to production roughly every week.

This is a full-time, on-site role in our office in Żerniki near Poznań, with the option of occasional remote work when the need arises. We offer an employment contract, a B2B contract is open to negotiation if needed. You will own features end to end: from a ticket, through data model, API and UI, to tests, release notes. If you write solid Python and JavaScript, are comfortable reading a large codebase you did not write, and like the idea that a routing bug shows up as a truck on the wrong side of a border, we'd love to meet you.

Your responsibilities

  • Build features end to end – take a ticket from the backlog (e.g. a new planning screen, an invoicing rule, a driver-app flow) through Django models and migrations, REST endpoints, React/MobX UI, tests and changelog.
  • Integrate external systems – connect and maintain integrations with telematics providers, routing and map services, ferry and tunnel operators, tachograph data (DDD files), Microsoft 365 and accounting software over REST, SFTP and webhooks.
  • Keep production healthy – pick up Sentry errors and user-reported incidents, reproduce them on a staging copy of production data, fix the root cause and prevent regressions.
  • Care about performance – the system runs on a large PostgreSQL database; you will profile slow queries, design indexes, move work to Celery background tasks and keep screens fast.
  • Write and maintain tests – Django unit tests for backend logic and Cypress end-to-end tests for user flows are part of every change, not an afterthought.
  • Review and be reviewed – participate in merge-request reviews on GitLab, follow and improve team conventions and help keep the codebase coherent as it grows.
  • Clarify before you build – ask questions when a ticket is unclear, occasionally directly with the dispatchers or finance staff who will use the feature; propose simpler solutions when the request can be met with less.
  • Modernise responsibly – help with the gradual upgrades of the stack (Python, Django, React, TypeScript adoption) without stopping feature delivery.
  • Communicate and stay Agile – priorities change; give short, regular updates on progress and blockers and re-plan when needed.

Our requirements

  • 3–5 years of professional software development experience, with Python and Django used in a production system.
  • Solid relational database skills – PostgreSQL preferred: data modelling, writing and reading non-trivial SQL, understanding query plans and indexes, safe schema migrations on live data.
  • Practical frontend experience with React and a state-management library (MobX, Redux or similar), modern JavaScript.
  • Experience integrating third-party APIs – REST and ideally SOAP; authentication flows (OAuth2, bearer tokens, API keys); retries and error handling for systems you do not control.
  • Familiarity with asynchronous and scheduled work – Celery or an equivalent task queue; understanding what should and should not run inside a web request.
  • Comfortable with Docker, Git and a CI pipeline (GitLab CI or similar) as daily tools; able to debug a failing pipeline on your own.
  • A testing habit – unit tests for logic, end-to-end tests for flows; you know what to test and what not to.
  • Ability to navigate and improve a large existing codebase – reading before writing, small focused merge requests, no unnecessary rewrites.
  • Good English (B2/C1) – the codebase, tickets, reviews and part of the team communication are in English; Polish is used day to day in the office.
  • Clear communication, verbal and written – you can explain a technical trade-off to a non-technical colleague and keep status updates short, regular and honest.
  • Ownership and a proactive mindset – you notice problems before users report them and propose fixes rather than waiting for a ticket.

Optional

  • Experience in transport, logistics or fleet-management software (TMS, telematics, route planning, tachograph/driving-time regulations).
  • Maps and geo work – Leaflet or similar, routing/geocoding APIs (PTV, Google, HERE), polylines, time zones, distance and toll calculation.
  • Performance and observability tooling – Sentry, New Relic, PostgreSQL EXPLAIN, Celery monitoring (Flower).
  • Experience upgrading long-lived Django/React applications across major versions.
  • Dutch language, or experience working with a Dutch organisation.
  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field.

What we offer

  • Stable employment in an international company with 3000 employees located around the Europe.
  • We are awarded with the title of the Great Place To Work Poland certificate.
  • Grow with us through individual training programs, and language courses.
  • Experience a one-of-a-kind friendly and supportive atmosphere and working conditions.
  • Join our family-events and celebrations for employees.
  • Share knowledge in our diverse and international teams.
  • Give us regular feedback via surveys and internal meetings.
  • Start your Egala experience with a chat over lunch with our CEO – Sjef Boekestijn.
  • Stay in good shape with the help of our internal gym, football field and squash courts.
  • Comprehensive coverage of Private Medical Care and Life Insurance for you and your loved ones.
  • Transportation to work - to make your commute more convenient, by providing transportation to work from Rondo Rataje.
  • My Benefit Program – choose the benefits according to your needs among many various options available.
  • We care for your employee’s journey, that is why we welcome you with a special welcome gift, we provide you with a buddy – colleague who will make sure you feel well in our office.
