Software Engineer, Go — Codebase Q&A

We are seeking experienced Go engineers for a remote, contract-based opportunity focused on building high-quality datasets for AI coding and software-engineering agents.

In this role, you will create challenging codebase-exploration tasks based on real-world Go repositories. The work focuses on questions that require engineers to investigate unfamiliar systems, understand runtime behavior, and reason across multiple parts of a production codebase.

Compensation

• $130 per approved task

What You’ll Do

• Investigate large Go repositories and understand unfamiliar subsystems
• Analyze runtime behavior rather than relying only on source-code inspection
• Develop high-quality engineering questions that require multi-step codebase investigation
• Create and refine evaluation rubrics, expected answers, and plausible incorrect alternatives
• Validate tasks in the provided development environment
• Document your reasoning and address technical feedback during review

Example Codebases

The work may involve infrastructure-grade Go projects such as etcd, Traefik, Helm, Kustomize, CoreDNS, NATS Server, Temporal, Syncthing, restic, BadgerDB, quic-go, gRPC-Go, Hugo, rclone, Trivy, cert-manager, and Pion WebRTC.

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong production experience with Go
• Ability to navigate large and unfamiliar codebases
• Strong understanding of Go concurrency, interfaces, modules, and the standard library
• Experience with distributed systems, networking, storage systems, or Kubernetes-related tooling is highly relevant
• Strong Git and command-line skills
• Comfortable working with containers and development environments
• Excellent written English, especially for explaining technical reasoning and writing precise engineering questions
