About KARL STORZ

From the operating room to clinics—and everywhere in between—KARL STORZ North America is a global leader in medical technology and advanced visualization solutions. We design innovative systems that help physicians make informed clinical decisions and improve patient outcomes worldwide.

Our teams combine engineering excellence with real-world impact—building software and systems that directly support patient care.

About the Role

We are seeking a Software Engineer Test I (Contractor) to join our Software Quality Assurance team for a 6-month engagement beginning September 28, 2026.

This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career engineer to gain hands-on experience in software testing, automation, and agile development within a highly regulated MedTech environment.

You’ll work closely with experienced engineers to build and execute automated tests, validate software performance, and contribute to the quality of products used by healthcare professionals worldwide.

This is not a passive role—you’ll actively contribute to real product releases and DevOps pipelines.

What You’ll Do

Test Automation & Development

  • Develop and execute automated test scripts using existing frameworks
  • Define acceptance tests for new software features
  • Build supporting tools such as mocks, test harnesses, and utilities under guidance from senior engineers
  • Automate manual testing tasks to improve efficiency

Software Testing & Validation

  • Perform manual (black box) and exploratory testing
  • Create and execute integration tests based on design specifications
  • Investigate, document, and track software defects

Agile Team Collaboration

  • Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives
  • Contribute to estimation and planning of testing efforts
  • Work closely with software engineers, architects, and project managers

Documentation & Quality

  • Create and maintain test documentation aligned with quality standards
  • Support test plans for formal software releases
  • Maintain and update automated test suites for regression testing

Reporting & Support

  • Help track software quality metrics (e.g., defect trends, test coverage)
  • Communicate issues clearly to team members and leadership
  • Support broader team initiatives as needed

What You’ll Gain

  • Hands-on experience in software testing and automation in a regulated industry
  • Exposure to modern DevOps pipelines and agile development practices
  • Mentorship from experienced software and QA engineers
  • Real-world impact supporting medical technology used globally
  • Strong foundation for a career in software engineering or quality engineering

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field (or recent graduate)
  • 0–2 years of experience (internships or academic projects welcomed)
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming (e.g., C++, C#)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Python or .NET
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs
  • Exposure to Linux tools (gcc, gdb, shell scripting, etc.)
  • Understanding of software testing principles
  • Basic knowledge of networking or system design concepts

Who You Are

You’re curious, detail-oriented, and eager to learn. You enjoy solving problems, writing clean code, and understanding how systems work end-to-end. You’re comfortable asking questions, taking direction, and contributing to a team working toward shared goals.

Why KARL STORZ?

At KARL STORZ, your work goes beyond code—you’ll help build technology that supports physicians and improves patient outcomes. You’ll be part of a collaborative team where learning, mentorship, and meaningful contributions are part of the day-to-day experience.
