Software Engineer Manager

CBTS is seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Developer to lead and contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement of software applications, APIs, and databases. This is a hybrid people-leader/hands-on technical role, guiding a small team of developers across front-end, back-end, and data-focused work while directly contributing to architecture, feature development, code review, and delivery. The ideal candidate balances team leadership, strategic planning, and hands-on execution in a fast-changing environment, partnering closely with product, sales, marketing, and business stakeholders to translate needs into scalable, secure, high-quality solutions. This position will require the candidate to be on-site in Cincinnati, OH.

Duties:

• Lead, mentor, and manage a small team of developers across front-end, back-end, and database work while directly contributing to design, development, code review, and troubleshooting
• Oversee and participate in the full software development lifecycle — architecture, feature development, testing, deployment, documentation, maintenance, monitoring, and production support
• Partner with product, business, sales, and marketing stakeholders to define requirements, prioritize work, and deliver scalable, secure solutions aligned to customer and business needs
• Establish and reinforce engineering standards, best practices, and documentation expectations while driving continuous improvement in team processes and code quality
• Support performance optimization, issue resolution, and operational reliability across applications, backend services, and databases

Requires:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
• Strong development experience with the ability to lead a team while remaining hands-on across web applications, backend services, APIs, and databases
• Proficiency in JavaScript, Python, SQL, and modern web frameworks, with experience delivering commercial or SaaS products
• Solid understanding of application architecture, relational databases, data modeling, query optimization, geospatial objects, and large/complex datasets
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure), including deployment, monitoring, containerization, and production support
• Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, TypeScript, JavaScript, and Python
• Cloud infrastructure and database experience, including containerized environments, managed databases, network security, and serverless
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills
• Occasional travel
• Must be eligible to work in the United States
