Software Engineer (Mobile & Backend)

Location: Singapore

About the Role

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Digital Technology team. The role will primarily focus on developing and supporting our in-house Android applications used by warehouse operations and delivery teams, while also contributing to the backend systems and APIs that support them.

You will work closely with our Digital Products Manager, Software Leads and operational users to understand business processes, identify problems and translate requirements into practical software solutions. For smaller projects and enhancements, you will be expected to independently manage the development lifecycle from requirements gathering and solution design through implementation, testing, deployment and production support.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance and maintain in-house Android applications using Java and/or Kotlin.
• Develop and maintain backend applications, APIs and business logic using C# and .NET Framework.
• Work directly with users to understand operational needs and translate them into practical software solutions.
• Independently manage smaller software projects and enhancements from requirements gathering through design, development, testing and production deployment.
• Work with Microsoft SQL Server and relational databases to support application functionality, data access and backend integration.
• Investigate and resolve production issues across mobile, backend and database components.
• Collaborate with the Digital Products Manager, Software Lead and other developers on larger initiatives.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or an equivalent discipline.
• Experience or a strong foundation in software development, with exposure to native Android development using Java and/or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with C# and .NET development, with the ability to work on backend APIs, business logic and application integrations.
• Working understanding of REST APIs, application integration, relational databases and SQL; experience with Microsoft SQL Server is preferred.
• Ability to communicate with non-technical users, understand operational problems and translate them into workable software solutions.
• Strong problem-solving skills, independence, curiosity and an interest in understanding business processes.
• Around 2-4 years of relevant software development experience is preferred. Strong fresh graduates with substantial software development or Android project experience may also be considered.

Good to Have

• Experience with PostgreSQL or exposure to multiple relational database platforms.
• Experience maintaining, improving or modernising existing Android applications.
• Experience with API and system integration work across mobile and backend applications.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Codex or similar tools to improve software development productivity.
• Exposure to integrating AI or LLM capabilities into software applications.
