Software Engineer, Robotics
Location: San Francisco Bay Area, CA (Onsite)
Level: Mid–Senior Individual Contributor
Industry: Robotics | Autonomous Systems | Energy Infrastructure
Mission
Our client is an innovative, well-funded technology company developing next-generation energy infrastructure to support the rapidly growing demands of artificial intelligence and large-scale computing.
The company is building off-grid power infrastructure powered by renewable technologies, with a focus on delivering clean, scalable energy faster than traditional infrastructure providers.
By vertically integrating hardware, software, automation, and construction, the organization is rethinking how large-scale energy systems are designed, built, and deployed.
The team operates with a strong emphasis on ownership, speed, first-principles thinking, and technical excellence.
About the Company
Our client is an emerging hardware and software company tackling some of the most complex challenges at the intersection of energy, automation, robotics, and physical infrastructure.
The organization is developing large-scale infrastructure projects in collaboration with major technology partners, combining advanced engineering with rapid deployment capabilities.
Engineers are encouraged to take complete ownership of their work, challenge traditional approaches, and collaborate directly across disciplines without unnecessary hierarchy.
About the Role
As a Software Engineer, Robotics , you will own the software that enables autonomous machines to operate in complex, real-world environments.
You will work across the autonomy stack, including middleware, perception, localization, motion planning, and controls, while developing fleet management systems that coordinate multiple robots operating simultaneously.
This is a hands-on engineering role where your software will run on physical robotic systems in outdoor environments.
The position is based at the company's San Francisco Bay Area robotics facility, with travel to deployment sites as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop production-grade robotics software across perception, state estimation, localization, motion planning, and controls.
- Build task and motion planning systems that enable precise physical operations in dynamic environments.
- Design multi-robot coordination software, including task allocation, fleet management, and collision avoidance.
- Develop simulation environments, continuous integration workflows, and automated testing infrastructure to validate robotic systems before deployment.
- Build telemetry, logging, and data pipelines to support diagnostics, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Create operator-facing tools for teleoperation, supervision, and real-time robotic system monitoring.
- Develop resilient software capable of operating in remote environments with limited or intermittent connectivity.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering teams to deploy, test, and improve robotic systems in the field.
Required Qualifications
- Professional experience developing software for robotics or autonomous systems.
- Demonstrated experience delivering production robotics software deployed on physical hardware.
- Strong proficiency in systems programming languages such as C, C++, or Rust .
- Experience across robotics autonomy, including perception, localization, planning, or controls.
- Experience developing software for real-time or resource-constrained environments.
- Ability to independently own technical projects from initial architecture through deployment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and comfort operating in a fast-paced, high-ownership engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of professional Rust experience, ideally in real-time or safety-critical applications.
- Experience with outdoor robotics, off-road autonomy, heavy industrial automation, or construction robotics.
- Familiarity with GNSS/RTK, SLAM, or large-scale outdoor localization.
- Experience developing multi-robot coordination or fleet management platforms.
- Deep expertise in perception, sensor fusion, state estimation, motion planning, or controls.
- Experience integrating robotics software with physical hardware and supporting field deployments.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive base salary and equity package.
- Relocation assistance of up to $15,000.
- Unlimited PTO.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- $1,000 monthly meal stipend.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to join an ambitious engineering team building real-world autonomous systems that will directly support the next generation of critical infrastructure.
Engineers will have significant technical ownership, work across the complete robotics stack, and see their software deployed on physical machines solving complex problems at scale.
The role offers the opportunity to contribute to foundational technology at an early stage, with meaningful influence over engineering decisions and product development.
