Software Engineer: Test Automation & HIL

About The Role You build the software that automates production inspection and software and firmware verification for our robots. You implement the tests for each production stage, so every robot is checked by the same procedure against the same criteria.

In the lab, you build and run the hardware-in-the-loop environment: software and firmware under test are deployed onto real hardware, and the integrated system is checked as a whole. You verify existing and new features, and how the system responds to and recovers from errors and exceptions, and you tie it into CI so every change is checked again.

You work with hardware, firmware, software and production engineers to design test scenarios, and use logs and measurements to reproduce and analyze failures.

What You'll Do

• Define the checks and pass criteria for each production stage, and write the automated test scripts.
• Build software that talks to robots and test equipment, runs the tests, and collects status and measurement data.
• Build the HIL pipeline that ties together building and deploying the SW/FW under test, resetting equipment, running tests and collecting results.
• Develop scenarios that verify integrated behavior of SW/FW on real hardware, regressions in existing features, and new features.
• Verify how the system responds to and recovers from errors — dropped connections, malformed input, restarts.
• Wire automatic verification into CI on stage and QA merges, and keep the test environment reset, recoverable and maintained.
• Reproduce failures from SW/FW logs and hardware state together, and work with the engineers involved to investigate defects and verify fixes.
• Define the test execution interface and the result and diagnostic data formats with the production data and tools engineer.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software development, with strong Python.
• Experience writing automated tests in code and setting them up to run in CI.
• Able to read hardware documentation and communication specs, and develop and debug software that talks to equipment.
• Able to reproduce problems and find their cause from software logs together with hardware state and measurements.
• Working knowledge of Linux and Git.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or running HIL benches or automated test equipment (ATE).
• Experience automating system integration tests, including SW/FW deployment and equipment control.
• Experience in a QA or QE organization — test planning, defect management, or running a verification process.
• Experience with ROS/ROS2 and with bring-up and diagnostics of robots or embedded systems.
• Experience packaging applications with Docker and running them in lab or factory environments.
