The role combines cloud software, embedded vehicle systems, AI-powered engineering tools, and automotive communication networks. The ideal candidate will have strong software engineering expertise and automotive systems knowledge, with experience integrating vehicle signals, telematics data, vehicle modules, and connected vehicle technologies.
The engineer will translate vehicle feature requirements into scalable software solutions while collaborating with software, hardware, telematics, validation, and supplier teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable cloud-native and desktop-based applications supporting vehicle configuration workflows.
- Architect and implement microservices and APIs using Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, React, and PostgreSQL.
- Develop reusable frameworks and services for vehicle feature configuration, signal management, and integration workflows.
- Ensure performance, scalability, reliability, and cybersecurity requirements across software components.
- Collaborate with vehicle feature engineers, module owners, telematics teams, and external suppliers to integrate new vehicle capabilities.
- Support integration of CAN, CAN-FD, J1939, LIN, Automotive Ethernet, hard switches, soft switches, telematics, and connected vehicle services.
- Analyze vehicle architecture changes and assess their impact on configuration models and workflows.
- Participate in system-level design reviews and technical feasibility assessments.
- Design and integrate AI-powered capabilities to improve configuration authoring, validation, and diagnostics.
- Lead observability initiatives using SLOs, SLIs, dashboards, monitoring, and alerting frameworks.
- Drive performance engineering, API governance, software quality, secure development practices, and compliance.
- Translate business and vehicle feature requirements into technical implementation plans.
- Mentor engineers and lead technical discussions across software, hardware, telematics, validation, and supplier teams.
- Develop and maintain architecture designs for software components, APIs, vehicle integration services, AI-enabled capabilities, and cloud-connected systems.
- Champion automated testing, test-driven development, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, code quality, and DevSecOps practices.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Software engineering experience with enterprise-scale systems.
- Experience with Java and Spring Boot.
- Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and React.
- Experience with PostgreSQL.
- Embedded software experience, including in-vehicle software development and testing in the automotive domain.
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Experience designing and developing REST and GraphQL APIs.
- Strong expertise in microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.
- Experience with automotive communication networks, including CAN, CAN-FD, J1939, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet.
- Knowledge of vehicle systems, signals, telematics, gateways, and telematics control units (TCUs).
- Experience with API design, OpenAPI specifications, integration patterns, and data modeling.
- Experience with cloud-native development, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code.
- Hands-on experience with tools such as Jenkins, Tekton, Terraform, GitHub, SonarQube, JFrog, FOSSA, and 42Crunch.
- Understanding of vehicle electrical architectures, body control systems, communication protocols, and supplier-delivered software, firmware, or hardware modules.
- Ability to analyze vehicle feature requirements, signal definitions, network specifications, and module interface documentation.
- Bachelor's degree required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with upfitter integration, fleet solutions, commercial vehicles, body builder interfaces, or aftermarket equipment integration.
- Familiarity with vehicle electrical architecture, telematics systems, gateways, TCUs, and connected vehicle platforms.
- Knowledge of J1939 PGNs, SPNs, and heavy-duty vehicle communication standards.
- Exposure to service-oriented vehicle architecture, OBD2, DTCs, vehicle data platforms, and cloud-connected vehicle ecosystems.
- Experience with analytics and visualization platforms, vehicle diagnostic tools, and data acquisition systems.
- Familiarity with AUTOSAR architecture concepts and automotive cybersecurity and functional safety standards.
- Experience working in Agile product development environments.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, technical leadership, and mentoring skills.
