Software Engineer (VIS)

Akkodis is proud to partner with a global automotive client who is seeking a highly technical Software Engineer - Vehicle Integration System (VIS) for a contractual opportunity in the Dearborn, MI area (This position is onsite 4 - 5 days weekly.

In this position you will help shape the future of connected and software-defined vehicles. In this role, you'll develop and enhance Vehicle Integration System (VIS), a critical platform that enables vehicle upfitters, fleet customers, and engineering teams to seamlessly integrate aftermarket equipment and advanced vehicle technologies.

This position sits at the intersection of cloud software development, embedded vehicle systems, telematics, vehicle communications networks, and AI-powered engineering tools . You'll work closely with software, hardware, validation, telematics, and vehicle engineering teams to deliver scalable solutions that support next-generation vehicle capabilities.

Pay Range: $60/hr. - $65/hr. (W2) ("Market") - The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain cloud-native and desktop applications supporting vehicle integration workflows.
• Build scalable microservices and APIs using:
• Java / Spring Boot
• Node.js / TypeScript
• React
• PostgreSQL
• Develop solutions supporting vehicle feature configuration, signal management, and integration services.
• Design and implement REST and GraphQL APIs.
• Ensure systems meet performance, scalability, reliability, and cybersecurity requirements.
• Integrate vehicle capabilities into the VIS platform by working with vehicle engineers, module owners, telematics teams, and suppliers.
• Support automotive communication technologies including:
• CAN / CAN-FD
• J1939
• LIN
• Automotive Ethernet
• Telematics and Connected Vehicle Services
• Analyze vehicle signals, network specifications, and system architectures.
• Translate vehicle feature requirements into software solutions and configuration logic.
• Participate in system design reviews and technical feasibility assessments.
• Build and deploy cloud-native applications within Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Support Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code practices.
• Lead observability initiatives using monitoring, dashboards, alerting, and service-level objectives.
• Champion automated testing, DevSecOps, and software quality best practices.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical leadership across the team.
• Design and integrate AI-powered capabilities that improve configuration authoring, validation, and diagnostics.
• Evaluate emerging technologies supporting software-defined vehicles and connected mobility platforms.

Desired Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience developing enterprise-scale applications.
• Strong hands-on experience with:
• Java / Spring Boot (5-7+ years)
• REST APIs and GraphQL (5-7+ years)
• Node.js / TypeScript / React (3-5+ years)
• PostgreSQL (3-5+ years)
• Distributed systems and microservice architectures
• 3-5+ years of embedded or in-vehicle software development experience.
• Strong understanding of:
• CAN, CAN-FD, J1939, LIN
• Vehicle gateways and telematics systems
• TCUs (Telematics Control Units)
• Vehicle electrical architectures
• Vehicle signal analysis and communication protocols
• Experience developing and testing software within automotive environments.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure.
• Experience with:
• Kubernetes
• Docker
• Jenkins
• Terraform
• GitHub
• CI/CD pipelines
• DevSecOps methodologies
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
