Software Engineering Lead (Remote Weapon Systems)
EOS is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Software Engineer Lead to direct a small, dedicated team of software engineers in the design, development, test, and integration of embedded software solutions of our high-performing, world-leading Remote Weapon Systems (RWS) development programs. The ideal candidate will set the technical direction for the team while cultivating a strong culture of ownership. You will be instrumental in providing senior-level technical leadership, mentoring junior talent, managing daily tasking, and maintaining strict accountability for engineering quality and delivery schedules.
The role oversees cross-platform software for line-replaceable units (LRUs), command-and-control (C2) interfaces, and discrete electrical signals that enable reliable remote operation of our weapon systems. You will collaborate directly with our electrical engineering team, reviewing PCB schematics and component data sheets to ensure hardware aligns with software requirements. This is a critical leadership role that directly impacts our program success and team cohesion.
This is an on-site position located at our facility.
Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership & Oversight: Serve as the technical authority for the software engineering team, guiding the design, development, and integration of complex software solutions for RWS's.
- Team Mentorship & Cohesion: Actively mentor and coach younger engineers to accelerate their professional growth; build a highly collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
- Tasking & Resource Management: Manage, prioritize, and assign engineering tasks across multiple concurrent programs to optimize team bandwidth and satisfy project milestones.
- Culture of Ownership & Accountability: Foster a strong culture of ownership where team members take pride in and maintain full accountability for the quality, reliability, and on-time delivery of their products.
- Schedule & Quality Management: Maintain engineering schedules, conduct rigorous design reviews, and ensure all engineering deliverables meet stringent aerospace/ defense quality standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with systems, electrical, and mechanical engineering leads to seamlessly integrate software into weapon platform architectures.
- System Integration & Field Support: Work cross-functionally to integrate software with RWS systems; travel as required to support customer reviews, field integration, and live-fire test operations.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a highly related technical discipline.
- Experience: 8+ years of progressively responsible software engineering experience, with a strong focus on embedded systems.
- Platform & Hardware Expertise: Proven development experience with Microchip microcontrollers/microprocessors, their development ecosystems, and general C/C++ bare-metal and RTOS programming.
- Industry & Security: Demonstrated experience working in a Government Contracting Environment. Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret-level U.S. security clearance.
- Core Competencies: Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; willingness to travel to customer reviews or test ranges.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Degree: Master's degree in a relevant engineering or computer science field.
- Linux Build Systems & Tools: Hands-on experience building custom embedded Linux distributions using the Yocto Project.
- Middleware & Networking: Proficiency with DDS publish/subscribe middleware, TCP/UDP sockets, RS-232, and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) protocols.
- Advanced Weapon System Tech: Experience developing Command and Control (C2) software, integrating EO/IR or radar systems, and exposure to EO/IR test and evaluation instruments.
- Next-Gen Innovation: Familiarity with AI/Machine Learning concepts and their practical application to advance automation and targeting software in remote weapon systems
Outstanding Benefits/Perks:
- Excellent insurance coverage
- 401(k) match
- Generous PTO
