Job Title: Software Technical Writer (Apigee Documentation Migration)

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Software Technical Writer with strong documentation, content architecture, and API documentation expertise to support the migration of Apigee Edge and On-Premises Private Cloud (OPDK) documentation from legacy documentation platforms to Google Cloud documentation standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical writing skills, hands-on experience with documentation-as-code workflows, and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and product teams.

Key Responsibilities

Content Migration & Information Architecture

• Lead the migration of Apigee Edge and OPDK documentation to modern cloud documentation platforms.
• Design and implement a new Information Architecture (IA) and redirect strategy.
• Analyze existing content, identify gaps, and optimize content structure for improved discoverability and usability.
• Ensure documentation aligns with Google Cloud publishing and style standards.

Documentation Authoring & Publishing

• Create, update, edit, and maintain technical documentation using:

• Markdown

• HTML

• YAML

• Publish content using documentation-as-code methodologies.

• Work with source control systems and documentation review workflows.

• Manage content lifecycle, approvals, reviews, and releases.

API Documentation & Automation

• Generate and maintain API documentation from Proto files.
• Utilize documentation generation tools and automation scripts.
• Create and maintain developer-focused documentation, API references, guides, tutorials, and release notes.
• Leverage Bash scripting and command-line tools to streamline documentation processes.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Engineering, Product Management, UX, and Documentation teams.
• Track documentation issues, feedback, and enhancements.
• Participate in launch readiness and documentation review activities.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure content accuracy and completeness.

Version & Content Management

• Define and implement documentation versioning strategies.
• Maintain historical and version-specific documentation.
• Establish governance processes for content maintenance and lifecycle management.

AI-Enabled Productivity

• Utilize AI-powered tools to improve documentation quality and efficiency.

• Automate repetitive documentation tasks such as:

• Document summarization

• Style compliance reviews

• Code sample formatting

• Content validation

• Documentation quality improvements

Mandatory Skills

Technical Writing

• 6+ years of experience in Technical Writing, Software Documentation, or Developer Documentation.
• Experience creating documentation for APIs, Cloud Platforms, Developer Tools, or Enterprise Software.
• Strong understanding of documentation lifecycle management.
