Standard Job Description

What We’re Doing

At Lockheed Martin, innovation and integrity drive everything we do. Within Rotary and Mission Systems, our teams develop advanced avionics and mission-critical solutions that power modern defense platforms. We value your skills, education, and ideas—and give you opportunities to think big, grow, and build technology that matters.

The Work

We are seeking an early career Software Verification Engineer to join a Mission Systems team that develops software applications supporting critical business and mission objectives. The incumbent will execute all phases of the software development lifecycle—requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and documentation—under very general supervision. Success requires strong teamwork, clear communication, and the ability to coordinate with Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Program Management, and the Software Architecture group. Familiarity with Agile development, DevSecOps, DO‑178C, C/C++, Python, Linux, GitLab, and Atlassian tools is desired.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement C/C++ test procedures that verify SRS high‑level and SDD low‑level software requirements.
  • Conduct laboratory investigations, troubleshoot software issues, and perform regression analysis to ensure continued compliance.
  • Develop and maintain traceability matrices linking test results to original requirements, ensuring full coverage and auditability.
  • Create detailed test plans, test procedures, and test reports; execute integration, verification, and validation (IV&V) activities in a software‑development lab environment.
  • Define external and internal hardware/software interfaces as needed for verification setups; update Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (hardware, software, integration/test) to resolve verification findings and drive corrective actions.
  • Support documentation of verification activities and contribute to certification evidence packages.
  • Participate in team planning, status updates, and risk mitigation to meet technical performance, schedule, and cost objectives.

Who We Are

We’re a collaborative team of engineers and innovators developing high-performance avionics systems. Our work combines systems, software, hardware, and integration expertise to deliver reliable capabilities for critical aerospace and defense missions.

Who You Are

You’re a detail-oriented engineer who enjoys turning complex problems into a structured, well designed software product. You communicate effectively, collaborate across disciplines, and are motivated to understand how software, hardware, and systems work together.

You bring:

  • A foundation in systems engineering, software engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with software development and management tools.
  • Understanding of embedded software and hardware/software integration.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Why Join Us

Build your career while contributing to cutting-edge avionics and mission systems. At Lockheed Martin, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers, grow your technical skills, and help shape technologies that support critical missions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 2 years of professional engineering experience or a Master’s degree with no required experience.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, and/or Python for developing automated test code and scripts.
  • Knowledge of system verification/test documentation, test‑plan creation, and execution.
  • Demonstrated experience developing software verification assets (test code, procedures, traceability) and working with software engineers on design and test of embedded software.
  • Experience with the design, integration, and test of systems and software operational programs.

Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with Real‑Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and embedded platforms.
  • Experience working on cross‑functional teams (Hardware, Software, Integration/Test).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; ability to troubleshoot complex software issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to build strong customer relationships and convey verification results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Current active Secret security clearance.
  • Ability to work independently on verification tasks while contributing to overall team objectives.
