What to Expect

We’re looking for a passionate Applications Engineer to join the Tesla Energy Applications team. As Applications Engineer focused on solar applications, you will be the subject matter expert on Tesla’s new industrial and utility-scale solar products, involved with product specification, technical requirements, feature development, pilot testing, and commercial rollout. As a key technical member of the cross-functional Applications Engineering team within the Energy Engineering organization, you will be integral to Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable abundance.

What You'll Do

• Provide technical expertise on industrial and utility-scale solar inverter control and monitoring for the implementation of new features in Tesla’s commercial and utility energy offering
• Advise, scope and support development of monitoring and control features for commercial and utility-scale solar
• Collect input from a diverse group of stakeholders (customer, sales, service, firmware, hardware, etc.) and distill into clear requirement for software and firmware development teams
• Drive internal validation and field pilots for newly developed features
• Work closely with software development teams to resolve any issues that arise during implementation
• Develop tools to facilitate scaling of Tesla’s solar deployments
• Develop internal and external technical documentation to educate customers and adjacent teams about the product and about newly deployed functionalities
• Create tools and trainings that empower Tesla technical support and service teams to troubleshoot issues related to subject matter expertise
• Support the assessment of new applications relating to subject matter expertise that arise in the sales process

What You'll Bring

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• Technical and hands-on experience (deployment, commissioning or service) with PV inverters, particularly in the utility space (front-of-the-meter, transmission-connected systems). Experience with additional equipment as part of utility-scale solar installations (trackers, balance of plant) desired
• Demonstrated application of analysis, design, and testing to solve complex engineering problems
• Strong knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals
• Knowledge of at least one relevant programming language: Rust, Golang, Python, etc. is preferred

Expected Compensation

$140,000 - $252,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
