Solar Design Engineer

Role and Responsibilities

Solmacher Solar Energy is a renewable energy solutions provider based in Doha, Qatar, specializing in solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, energy storage solutions, and innovative solar infrastructure. We deliver tailored solutions for commercial, industrial, and utility-scale applications, including rooftop and ground-mounted PV systems, solar carports, hybrid power systems, and mini-grids.

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Solar Design Engineer to join our growing team and contribute to the design and engineering of reliable, efficient, and cost-effective renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop solar PV systems for rooftop, ground-mounted, solar carport, and other commercial and industrial applications.
• Prepare detailed solar PV layouts, electrical single-line diagrams (SLDs), schematic drawings, cable sizing calculations, and equipment specifications.
• Perform solar energy yield assessments, shading analysis, system sizing, and performance simulations.
• Develop and review engineering drawings, technical specifications, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Support the design of on-grid, off-grid, and hybrid solar systems, including battery energy storage systems (BESS) and mini-grid applications.
• Conduct site surveys and technical assessments to evaluate installation requirements, existing electrical infrastructure, and site constraints.
• Select and evaluate solar modules, inverters, mounting structures, batteries, and other balance-of-system components.
• Review tender documents, technical specifications, and client requirements to ensure compliance with project scope and applicable standards.
• Coordinate with project management, procurement, suppliers, consultants, and installation teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Prepare technical submittals, material approval requests (MARs), design calculations, and documentation required for client and authority approvals.
• Support technical proposals, feasibility studies, value engineering, and cost optimization.
• Assist with design reviews, troubleshooting, commissioning support, and as-built documentation.
• Ensure engineering deliverables meet applicable Qatar regulatory requirements, project specifications, and relevant IEC and other applicable standards.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in solar PV design and engineering, preferably in an EPC or renewable energy company.

Preferred Skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and PVsyst; experience with HelioScope, SketchUp, or similar engineering software is an advantage.
• Good understanding of solar PV system design, electrical calculations, cable sizing, protection systems, earthing, and equipment selection.
• Practical knowledge of on-grid, off-grid, and hybrid solar systems.
• Familiarity with battery energy storage systems, mini-grids, and energy management solutions is an advantage.
• Knowledge of applicable IEC standards, utility interconnection requirements, and local authority approval processes.
• Experience preparing SLDs, BOQs, technical specifications, engineering drawings, and material submittals.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and coordination skills.
• Good command of written and spoken English.
