Solar Electrical Design Engineer

Your bite-size role:

Power 4 All, Inc. is currently looking for a Solar Electrical Design Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting electrical systems for solar PV projects. You will translate project requirements into safe, efficient, cost-effective, and code-compliant solar electrical designs, ensuring that systems meet technical specifications, performance targets, and sustainability goals.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, suppliers, and project teams to deliver high-quality solar solutions from design and costing through project execution.

You should be proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering quality outputs within agreed timelines.

Your role has a wide range of responsibilities:

Solar Electrical Design & Engineering

★ Develop detailed electrical designs for Solar PV systems, including rooftop, ground-mounted, and commercial/industrial solar installations.

★ Prepare and develop Single Line Diagrams (SLD), electrical layouts, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, equipment layouts, and other engineering drawings using AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software.

★ Perform PV system sizing and electrical calculations, including module/string configuration, inverter sizing, DC and AC cable sizing, voltage drop, short-circuit current, system capacity, and equipment ratings.

★ Design electrical systems covering DC and AC distribution, inverters, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, metering, monitoring, grounding, and lightning protection.

★ Evaluate and select appropriate electrical equipment and components based on project requirements, technical specifications, safety, reliability, and cost.

★ Ensure all solar electrical designs comply with applicable Philippine Electrical Code (PEC), Philippine Distribution Code, National Electrical Code where applicable, utility requirements, and relevant international standards.

Analysis & Problem-Solving

★ Conduct electrical calculations, simulations, and technical assessments to validate the performance and reliability of solar PV systems.

★ Analyze system losses, voltage drop, protection requirements, equipment loading, and other electrical parameters affecting system performance.

★ Identify and resolve technical issues related to solar PV systems, including inverter, protection, cable, grounding, and grid-interconnection concerns.

★ Review and evaluate customized client requirements and provide practical and technically sound engineering solutions.

★ Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of electrical and solar system issues during installation, testing, and commissioning.

Solar System Optimization & Value Engineering

★ Conduct Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) to improve system performance, reliability, constructability, and cost-effectiveness.

★ Evaluate alternative equipment, technologies, and design approaches while maintaining required system performance and quality.

★ Optimize solar electrical designs to improve energy yield, system efficiency, reliability, safety, and overall project cost.

★ Support the evaluation and integration of related technologies such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), energy management systems, and other renewable energy solutions when required.

Technical Documentation

★ Prepare, review, and maintain complete technical documentation, including:

• Single Line Diagrams (SLD)
• Electrical layouts
• Cable schedules
• Equipment schedules
• Load schedules
• Electrical calculations
• Design reports
• Technical specifications
• Datasheets
• Material take-offs
• Testing and commissioning documents

★ Ensure all engineering drawings and documents are accurate, updated, properly coordinated, and compliant with project requirements.

★ Incorporate design revisions and maintain proper document control throughout the project lifecycle.

Bill of Quantities (BOQ) & Costing

★ Prepare detailed Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and material take-offs for solar electrical works.

★ Identify required electrical materials and equipment, including PV modules, inverters, cables, conduits, protection devices, switchgear, transformers, grounding materials, and other related components.

★ Prepare basic cost estimates and support the development of project budgets based on approved designs and specifications.

★ Coordinate with Procurement and Project teams to ensure BOQ requirements are aligned with design specifications, project budgets, and material availability.

★ Review and update BOQs based on design revisions, material changes, and project requirements.

Project Support

★ Collaborate with civil, mechanical, structural, environmental, and other engineering disciplines to ensure proper integration of solar electrical systems.

★ Provide technical support during project planning, tendering, procurement, construction, installation, testing, and commissioning.

★ Review shop drawings, technical submittals, equipment datasheets, and contractor proposals for compliance with project requirements.

★ Conduct site visits, inspections, and technical assessments to verify design implementation and resolve site-related electrical issues.

★ Provide technical guidance to project and construction teams regarding solar electrical installation requirements.

★ Support testing and commissioning activities and assist in resolving technical issues prior to project turnover.

Who we need for our high-performance team:

★ Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BS EE).

★ Licensed Electrical Engineer (REE) is an advantage.

★ Preferably with experience in Solar PV system design and engineering.

★ Experience in designing DC and AC electrical systems, power distribution, protection systems, and grid-connected solar PV systems.

★ Knowledge of solar PV system sizing, inverter selection, cable sizing, voltage drop, grounding, protection, and electrical calculations.

★ Knowledge of applicable Philippine Electrical Code, electrical standards, utility interconnection requirements, and safety regulations.

★ Proficient in AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software for electrical and solar design.

★ Experience with solar design and simulation software such as PVsyst, Helioscope, Aurora Solar, or equivalent is an advantage.

★ Knowledge of Single Line Diagrams (SLD), electrical layouts, cable schedules, load schedules, and technical documentation.

★ Basic knowledge of BOQ preparation, material take-offs, cost estimation, and design costing.

★ Experience in solar construction, installation, testing, and commissioning is an advantage.

★ Experience with BESS, energy storage systems, or renewable energy projects is an advantage.

★ Background in HV/MV electrical design and power distribution is an advantage.

★ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve technical issues.

★ Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver accurate engineering designs and documentation within deadlines.

★ Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, suppliers, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.

★ Proactive, adaptable, and able to work independently while supporting project and engineering teams.

★ Willing to conduct site visits and project-related field work as required.
