About Helios
Helios is a venture-backed, mission-driven solar start-up making clean energy accessible across the Philippines. We're solving the residential solar market's biggest challenges as we scale toward a nationwide presence.
Job Description
Every Helios installation starts with a design. As our Solar Designer, you'll turn a customer's site and electricity profile into an accurate, buildable solar PV system. You'll handle system sizing, layouts, and the documents for proposals and net metering. This is a hands-on, detail-focused engineering role. How fast and how accurately you work shapes the customer proposal, the installation, and how well the system performs.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare solar PV system designs for residential and small commercial customers based on site surveys, roof details, photos, and electricity bills
- Size systems and select solar panels, inverters, batteries, and mounting components
- Produce panel layouts, single-line diagrams (SLD), and cable and protection schedules
- Run energy yield and shading simulations and present expected production clearly
- Prepare design packages and technical inputs for customer proposals with the Sales team
- Generate accurate bills of materials (BOM) for Purchasing and Warehouse
- Prepare technical documents for net metering and distribution utility (DU) interconnection applications
- Coordinate with Sales, Site Engineers, and Purchasing to resolve design issues, site changes, and equipment substitutions
- Apply the Philippine Electrical Code (PEC) and Helios design standards on every project
- Help improve design templates, checklists, and workflows to shorten turnaround time
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or a related engineering field
- 1–3 years of experience in solar PV design or a related engineering role; fresh graduates with strong solar or design project experience are welcome
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, SketchUp, PVsyst, OpenSolar, or similar solar design tools
- Solid understanding of PV fundamentals: modules, inverters, batteries, string sizing, and basic electrical protection
- Strong attention to detail and the discipline to check your own work and meet deadlines
- Clear written and verbal communication in English and Filipino
- Able to handle multiple designs at once in a team setting
- Willing to work on weekends (5-day workweek, but schedule will cover weekends)
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered Electrical Engineer (REE) license
- Experience designing hybrid or battery energy storage systems (BESS)
- Familiarity with net metering and DU requirements in the Philippines (e.g., Meralco)
- Site survey or solar installation experience
What We Offer
- Hands-on experience across residential and commercial solar projects
- A clear path to grow your career in solar engineering
- A collaborative, fast-moving startup team working on meaningful clean energy work
- Competitive salary and benefits package
